The Thing About An Opinion

As the saying goes...The beauty of a site like this is that it provides a platform for sharing our opinions. Some like to use the site as if they are at the pub with their mates, chatting in the cupboard about a range of topics. People who we may never have met under other circumstances become friends. This becomes their place to hang out with these mates. It's human nature to stand by mates and defend them. Some like to use the site to share information about their favourite team. Whether it be match descriptions, inside word about decisions or signings or posting media articles, it helps us to keep up to date with all things Parra.Sometimes this site is used for pushing political agendas, we all know that. We may not agree with each other on these matters, but I think we all know those site members who only appear at politically opportunistic times and those that are here talking footy at other times.Importantly, people use this site to give their opinion on a range of football matters. As the saying goes about opinions, everybody's got one.I'll share an anecdote that occurred during a taxi ride one day. The driver was a mountain of a man. He could barely fit into the car. The steering wheel looked like a kids toy in his hands. Furthermore, he looked like the sort of bloke you wouldn't want to tangle with. We were chatting about his job and I commented that he would be less likely to get trouble from customers than other drivers given his size.He replied that he used to have lots of problems and that they were mostly his.He explained that it took him many years to adapt to the Aussie way of life.In his culture, according to him, to disagree with a man's opinion was like a personal insult. What he was now seeing as a debate or a discussion, he used to see as a call to fight. It caused many issues for him in the past. He said it was no longer how he viewed those situations and he enjoyed debating with others.I'm not using this anecdote as any sort of cultural discussion starter. It's just the context of the anecdote. Our opinions may be right or wrong, or varying degrees of either. And we all have them.

  • I can't disagree with this blog, as it's stating the obvious ;)
    • lol. Hoping that there's food for thought contained within.
  • 60s agreed mate.
Been banging in about this for years.
If someone disagrees with this blog or any other ignore it and find one you feel like reading. Simple.
    • Full Agree FF.

There are some posters just because they don't like your post, gives them the right to make derogatory and personally insulting comments about your opinions and your character.

If you can't make a balanced reply and you don't like someones opinion move on, don't make childish/ disrespectful comments. I have seen a lot of this behaviour over the last couple of days due to the Sandow debacle with one poster (they know who they are) being a serial offender. It leaves a sour taste for all parties concerned and turns the forums away from what they are there for which is the raising of opinions and discussions on current issues.Lets keep it that way and leave the childish behaviour at home.

Great topic Sixties and thank you for putting it up because I am sure there are a lot of members who have felt a bit let down on these forums lately
