The Sterlo Factor???

For so long, this great and proud club has been it's own worst enemy.  For near 29 years we have endured boards that have fought amongst themselves, each with their own plan of what is best for the future and through it all we have had glimpse of greatness and never capitalised.  But the lingering factor has been the perpetual need and desire to find the next Sterlo

The Sterlo Factor -

Whether it be media driven or internally spoken about, we have been hell bent on finding the next Peter Sterling.  We have had an endless number of hopefuls that were charged with leading us to glory once more.  A quality halfback is an important part of any team, however remember our most successful seasons over the the past 3 decades were lead by #7's including, John Simon, David Penna, Ben Kusto, Jason Taylor, Tim Smith and Jeff Robson.  The only thing we have had more of over this time is new Head Coaches.

There has been much talk about our incumbent #7 and whether he the right for our team.  On current results some may say no, one thing that I know is that we need to find a player whether it is Sandow, Kelly or someone else and build around them.

This constant changing and public persecution of our players is not helping and we need to pick and stick and the last time I checked there are another 16 players that play each and every week too.

  • What will put this idea to death? Will it be the winning of another premiership? And if that's the case would Robson have been remembered as a legend if we won '09? Is it like the NFL Super Bowl MVP thing?

Or would it need for us to bring a young bloke in who goes on to win comps and play for Australia? We don't seem to be very good at sticking with our young blokes. Blake Green played Australian schoolboys but didn't stay with us for long. Michael Witt looked the goods but went elsewhere. Dan Mortimer was supposed to be the next big thing. None of these guys have played rep football. Hodkinson has played for NSW but he really doesn't seem to be that elite #7.
    • I forgot Blake green was one of ours, he is doing some good things with the storm at 6
I agree, we tend to death ride players after 5 or so games.. In saying that, 2nd tier to NRL is a much bigger step then it use to be, so players seem to find it difficult to live up to hype
We have some good young players ATM but none I would call a "big star" in he making
As for our 7, we really have struggled for years to have a genuine fantastic 7
  • It's good that they aren't rushing Matterson in and instead giving him time to mature in NSW Cup. Wouldn't have minded hanging onto Keary or Moses they look to be another two promising halves that got away.
