The refs drive me nuts!

I thought the refereeing was dreadful in the first twenty minutes. Wrong decision about the first penalty which was not a head high, wrong about the second when a St George player interfered in the play the ball, wrong about the third when a St's player nudged the ball out of tackled players hands- with his HEAD!!!!I nearly lost my cool (actually I was screaming like a banshee) after these dreadful mistakes when Parra was getting pummeled. Games are won and lost on one wrong penalty but 3 or 4! And in the background Gus the Goose is saying Parra's just waiting for the axe.And then the pure talent of a great team started to assert itself. Morts chase and bat back was briliant and Burty was in the right place at the right time AS USUAL.And the whole team tackled their big beautiful hearts out the whole game. Parra didn't just beat St George but the bad refereeing as well.

  • I mentioned in a post last week how tall the order was to beat the Dragons at Kogarah yesterday. We were always going to be killed by the refs and we were. By my reckoning, only three penalties to the Dragons were deserving (taking into account consistency, i.e. both teams were off-side all day): the high tackle from Ben Smith (which was a bit high valdo), the hand in the tackled player's face from Todd Lowrie and Jarryd Hayne's taking the man in the air.

Meanwhile, the Dragons got away with lying all over the tackled player - on many occasions making second efforts and flops - and several forward passes from Nathan Fien at dummy half.

I'm not a fan of the McIntyre system but to be fair, it isn't the McIntyre system, rather the stupidity of the NRL that will send us to Melbourne to play the Storm in a preliminary final should we beat the Titans on Friday so we can look forward to this partisan officiating again, possibly in a fortnight!
    • Both teams also got away with a helluva lot of forward passes. I cringed so many times watching the game and then phewing when we got away with it!

Check the NRL finals predictor, when we beat the Titans we play the Dogs in the GF qualifier. The winner of Broncos v Dragons goes to Melbourne!
    • Just a correction, when we beat the Titans on Friday night, we play the Bulldogs the following week, not the Storm - much better...
    • Oh good. Must admit, I did think that was the case, but reading the SMH this morning, they suggested that we'd play Melbourne. (4th paragraph - http://www.smh.com.au/news/lhqnews/bennett-calm-as-broncos-loom/200...). Playing the Dogs in Sydney, with or without Kimmorley, will be an easier assignment than taking on the Storm at Etihad!
      • I thought that as well at first and was pleasantly surprised to see that I was wrooooooonnnnnnggggg.
  • It was very poor, i knew it being at Kogarah that we would be on the wrong end of the tackle count but i never imagined so lopsided. The amount of forward passes that were missed was astonishing and we had the ball stripped on 3 occasions and never once was it called, yet when boyd loses it cold in front of the posts the dragqueens get a penalty.

There is no doubt that we are on the easier path to the GF now, with the Titans in Sydney then (hopefully) the Dogs in Sydney. Wev'e made it extremely difficult for the Dragons (you ripppppper) with them having to go to Brisbane then if they get through that encounter they then would have to face the Storm in Melbourne.
  • How true is this! I thought it was just me being One Eyed but we were really coping the wrong end of the penalties...
  • ... frustrating as hell - mistakes acceptable - inconsistancy is heart attack material. And as valdo said we smashed despite this!!!!
