The Personal Protest - My Anti-Rally Statement

As a Parramatta fan I am disappointed that the contract presented to Kieran Foran contained an inappropriate clause. When the matter is finally resolved I need an answer to how this transpired and a guarantee that processes are in place to prevent a repetition of this event. However, I wish to protest about the following:1. The untruths and inaccuracies presented in the media as facts. The ridiculous reporting that Brad Arthur was about to be pushed out was the prime example of the fabrication which is prevalent during this last week.2. Commentators with agendas. The concluding statement by Matthew Johns during his interview with Brad Arthur exposed his agenda and animosity towards the Parramatta club. I congratulate Brad Arthur's dignified response.3. Political agitators and their opportunistic use of the current problem to further their own cause. These people are getting their voices heard on social media. Their actions are not helping to resolve the problem at hand, in fact it is counterproductive and maintains a mob mentality.4. Protest rallies that are reported as representing my views as a supporter. These rallies provide no stability for our club and only serve to make the supporter base look foolish.I am writing this statement as being representative of my views. I do not present it as being representative of anyone else's. I am not organising any rally. I resent any rally or protest that is reported as representing my view as a Parramatta fan. I resent any rally designed to further destabilise my club simply to achieve the political cause of the people involved. As a Parramatta fan, I'd like any journalist reading this site to take notice of this opinion.

  • Well said - all those involved with the club could take a leaf out of BA's book on how he puts the club 1st. An absolute Legend. If anyone can get the team moving in the right direction its BA. Lets get right behind the boys this weekend, there will be nothing better than for those boys to turn up to a full house to let them know that no matter whats written in the paper, or the situation the club is in, our passion, support and love for the club will never waiver.

    • Cheers mate. How good was BA on TripleM. As he said, he's Parra through and through.
  • Totally agree, the quieter we keep the media the better. Yes we need to sort out the front office and bring in decent experienced ceo/board but no use airing our dirty laundry and fanning the flames.

    • The mainstream media feed off social media. When we react like a mob looking for someone to string up, we give them something else to write about. When we agree with lies, we provide vindication.
  • Thanks DB. Wise words to add. Well done.
  • The people who are running this rally on whatever day it is, will not be representing me. We need to get behind our club right now not against it.

I'll be there on Saturday night showing support for my team........

  • Hardly been any news on for last day mayb a lil longer bout this issue except here say i completely agree dont aid fuel to the fire
  • You undo all that you say by operating with a double standard. Your view is apparently just your opinion and not representative of anyone else's but nevertheless you advise others to take notice of it.

On the other hand, the views of media commentators and protest rally organizers are dismissed as unrepresentative and we are advised not to take notice of them.

Well, you thus admitted each side is unrepresentative but apparently only yours survives to be worthy of noticing.

So let's dial back the holier than thou, shall we? It's better to assume different opinions probably tap into, by accident or by informed intent, well-springs of attitudes and positions on the fiasco that is Parramatta. Each opinion is somewhat representative. Whether folks want to take notice of any or all of them is kind of their business.

For me, I very much doubt any story that hinges on conspiracy thinking. Throwing around the term 'agenda' just because you're not fond of the import of some view is shallow thinking. The simple fact is that the Foran episode points to deep management problems at the club. What the solution is remains elusive, but if any lesson has been learned is that fans rabidly pointing the finger at the media and others and launching from one blame game to the next is kind of symptomatic of the problem itself. Fans may have become so accustomed to pointless factionalism they descend into tribalism at the drop of a hat, treating any other view as agenda driven tribalism aimed at them. That kind of response is part of the problem, symbolized by the Board wanting their own independent review. It's almost comical.

In the end, was it all bungled by the club? Yes. Pointing fingers everywhere can get to the point of ignoring that fundamental detail. We do to the detriment of a good future for the Eels team.
    • I repeated it as being my personal opinion many times. Such is the issue of interpretation. I am asking any journalist to take as much notice of this personal opinion as any rally that is written up as being representative of me as a supporter. I have been very specific as using the word "I" and in saying that it is personal. I do not intend to represent you. I do not say that I represent the views of others. This is all my opinion. Choose to twist my writing as you wish but I don't think I could be any clearer.
However, I will not dispute your own opinion of what has transpired as it is your opinion. I can recognise and accept your use of the words "for me" and I will accept what follows as an opinion.
    • You missed my point. I think you tend to write a lot without saying much, and I mean that from the technical point of view of "writing", so to you it seems like a defense to repeat a few times the line about just your opinion. But my point was that you tried to purchase a holier-than-thou position by claiming non-representativeness for yourself and others while impugning the motives of all other views. It was that sleight of hand I critiqued. And I suggested it was symptomatic of the self-important tribalism that has grown up around the silly factionalism that passes for Parra management. If you can't understand that point, just say you non comprende, rather than roll back out the faux holier than thou.
