The Other Right Thing To Do

The off-field is dominating, and understandably so. The declarations about self interest have become the focus driving the supporters to demand immediate accountability from those standing accused. However, I can't help but feel saddened that many are giving up on the team. How long have you wished for, no demanded, a Parramatta team that could deal with adversity.Well, you've got a team that delivers it in spades.Brad Arthur and the team have turned up every week this season in spite of the salary cap dramas that have hung over their heads even before the season began. They do not deserve to hear fans say that they've given up or can't watch them. How would we react if they played that way? We rightly would be angered. So what if it's nearly impossible for the team to qualify for the finals. If they are going out there each week, busting a gut and winning more games than they lose, isn't that what we all want to see each match. Isn't that deserving of their home fans cheering them on? We will be a stronger group next year for going through all of this rubbish now!I fully intend to be at every Pirtek Stadium match for the remainder of this season. Admittedly, I turn up to watch opposed training sessions, so of course I would get myself to the footy. However, I'd like to emphasise that although I've had friends and acquaintances in and around the club for many years, I have only ever turned up to a game to support the blokes wearing the jerseys, I'm not there cheering for people in suits. So I'd suggest to fellow fans that we stay strong and supportive of the players. Don't turn your backs on the blokes busting their guts on the field. As I said on another blog, stop your Foxtel subscription, don't buy the newspaper, don't buy merchandise. But certainly, keep turning up for the team. You finally have a group of blokes that deserve your support.

  • Great to see a blog from you here 60s and its a pearla.

    • Thanks Snake. I've never left mate. TCT is a passion and I'm very proud of what we produce but it doesn't mean that myself or the other fellas aren't interested in Parramatta's number one forum site. I'm just a bit more of a lurker lately.
I reckon that these times are a watershed moment for us as fans. We can make a real difference to the team both on and off the field. Today, PHIL has spoken about the off-field.
      My blog addresses the on-field.
If the message that we send is "we don't care, it's all too much", it will make BA's job just a little bit harder. Players perform better in front of passionate crowds. We can't give up on them.
  • As much as the whole NRL is just gutting me at the moment, there is no way I will stop watching the Eels play.
    • That's what we need!
    • Agree.
  • Sixties, always Parra Eels. Never will I side step my Club. Maintain the rage. I will die an ardent Parramatta Eels Fan. If people want to have a dig at me and my team, they can all fcuk off. I let them know at work and relatives cop a serve if they disrespect my Parra Eels.

Long live the Parra Eels and down with all detractors

    • Thats right mate. Rolling over just puts a smile on the faces of blokes like Kent. Imagine their delight if we have empty stands or fans giving up on their team. Never mind that a team like the Roosters could be consistently sitting at the top of the table (excluding 2016) and still have empty stands (yet creative attendance figures). The media would make headlines out of low Eels attendances.
  • Bloody oath mate. So many have given up already after one loss last Friday. Who cares if we don't make the finals. Winning is winning. Every time we win I'll be just as satisfied. This is a good team. It can become a GREAT one next year. But the foundations for that are being laid in the next 15 weeks. How we finish the year will go a long way towards 2017. Pirtek gets demolished at the end of the year also. Do we really want it to be half empty or worse for the last 4 EVER? If the players turn up, I'll turn up. We as fans have had a team to not be proud of for a few years. Now it's different. But will we actually show it? Or just keep on with the same old excuses about weather, time of the game etc etc?
Honestly, if the fans don't bother turning up, there is no reason for the players to train so hard and play so hard. The question is this: do you still love that blue and gold jersey, and the game if rugby league? Forget all else but those two things. Parramatta is in so many people's BLOOD. We bleed blue and gold. That will never change for many. But we need to SHOW it.
    • Superb comment mate. Just spot on!
  • I haven't given up hope in my heart but my head tells me its not going to happen the NRL simply won't let it happen.
As a fan I've only ever cared about the team I've ignored the bs from the board but unfortunately we can't anymore.
I've given up on the people running this club.
