SAAB NRL’S TOP MOTOR
It’s official … the fastest man in rugby league is Manly Sea Eagles flyer Jason Saab.
The verdict comes from the official Telstra Tracker data and GPS technology from the devices players wear in a sealed pocket on the back of their jerseys.
Dolphins fullback excitement machine Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Panthers centre Paul Alamoti were the next quickest.
Saab has been clocked this year at 37.8 km/h – faster than Cronulla Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo, who was quickest in the game last year at 37.18 km/h.
Surprisingly, Mulitalo has not made the top 10 this season in the exclusive data provided to this masthead.
The new speed figures have been released as the NRL continues to plan for a sprint race at Accor Stadium on grand final day.
All clubs not involved in the grand final will be invited to nominate a starter.
Players would receive an appearance fee and a cash prize for winning the event.
Judging by the way Manly played at Leichhardt Oval against the Wests Tigers on Friday night, Saab will be available for the dash for cash.
The fastest man in the game had an unhappy night on Manly’s right wing, spilling the football on a couple of crucial occasions. In fairness, the lead-up passes were not great.
Saab was asked last week about the sprint race.
“If you ask around you’ll get a common answer,” he said.
“If a race happens, I’ll let the legs do the talking.
“It’s an exciting thing. The fans would like to see it. We got a bit of a showcase of it on Saturday. It’s cool and like the Fox said, I’m grateful to be in the conversation with those players.”
Roosters star Dominic Young and Titans winger Alofiana Khan Pereira came in fourth and fifth.
Bulldogs winger and renowned speed man Josh Addo Carr, who was rounded up and bundled into touch by ‘The Hammer’ in Bundaberg last week, has scraped into the list in 10th spot.
It’s interesting that minor premiers Melbourne Storm don’t have a top 10 starter.
They have all the skills and power – plus three great wingers in Will Warbrick, Zavier Coates and Grant Anderson – but not the explosive speed of some of their rivals.

I thought Blaize would top that list lol
Blaze would win an over 50s race 😊😆😊
Doubt it.
Didn't Fido clock 40 the other day
I saw the same. Only briefly though.
Parra would easily have the most number of slowest players in the comp
If there's an apperence fee you can betcha Matto will be entering. Thats IF we don't make the GF of course. Jewish Ryan is probably down at Homebush with some free sprint coach as we speak.
You realise that is anti semetic don't you Wiz. "I don't know "you have put the black races off, Bluey is so blue he is turning rainbow and now you put the Jews under the hammer. How about having a go at the asians (sorry you have aleady done that in Phuket). What about the Indians, any chance that you like curry too much or are you just a "white supremist".
Well by your own admission you do come from the south......the land where 500 Lomax's are walking the streets...
Mattersons a Hebrew / Jewish name , we've been through this you senile old fart.
I am so over this NRL bullshit, with the best teams winning things, the best players winning positional awards, the fastest players in the comp being recognised.
When are they going to make it fairer for teams like ours. Without a doubt we have some of the best players going around . Why dont we get recognised.
There should be a weekly competition and points awarded for Missed tackles - We have some of the absolute best in the comp.
The Dumbest players - We could have the most Dally M medals ever in this category.
What about the 14second 100m Dash. Its just simply ours with the number of slow players we have on the books.
Its time to make it fair and bring these elite clubs back down to our level. I say share the love and share the spoils. Its time for the Eels to win something - anything !
