The Next Wave

Without doubt, something stinks in the media coverage of the Eels troubles. They have a job to do, Parra sells papers and generates clicks - I get that. If we had historically been a better managed club this would not be happening - I get that too. We would be the powerhouse that we should be both on and off the field. However, there are too many instances of biased and targeted reporting about the Eels to be ignored.Let's consider the following.* The leaking of investigation evidence to the media and the leaking of investigation results - journalists certainly investigate to get stories but this seems a deliberate unofficial release of information.* The aggressive language of a particular media identities about the actions of Parramatta management when these people know, yes know, that the successful clubs in the NRL all do the same thing or even worse. This is not excusing the Eels, but is rather a reflection of the attitude towards the Eels by many who actually have knowledge of what really happens in many clubs.* The preaching by the media about what the NRL should do, be it with regard to Parramatta's contracts or the penalties we face. Is it designed to put pressure on the NRL or to lay the public perception groundwork on their behalf? So now we get to the next wave of attack. All of the above has barely worked on the playing group. There is the genuine threat that the playing group has the resolve to ride out the storm and hit the ground running in 2017. So now the target turns to the players.Despite all of the media calls throwing questions at the players and BA, they have held their nerve and maintained an off-field calm and an on- field resolve. This obviously has not sat well with some people.Today we have the disgusting focus placed on Foran. This is a heinous report on an individual battling some major personal issues and it would not be receiving this coverage were it not for the fact that he plays for the Eels. There is an undoubted determination to tear this club down on all levels by particular individuals. This story got the editorial seal of approval. That says it all.I'm truly offended and angered by this latest attack.

  • Sixties, I agree in total with everything you have said. - It is obvious that Parra/Hayne is click bait; simply for the fact we are probably the most supported club in the league. - News-corpse will do anything to get their sales. - Parra sells. So we need to be better, much, much better at managing our shit. - FFS, taking minutes on a dictaphone about how they were going to get around the cap,3rd party deals etc. is like feeding bread to the pigeons of the Sydney media. - A new broom can't come soon enough. - I'll be happy when they're all gone & professionals are in charge provided we keep BA long, long term (ala Bennett at Brisbane). I would also like Wilson to advise us all where she got her info re Foran. - The simple fact that she reported it speaks volumes of her character & class

    • That we have made our own bed, there is no doubt. However, other factors at play cannot be ignored. Today's gutter work has truly crossed the line.

    • This trash today has demonstrated that there may not be any line that certain people aren't prepared to cross. At what cost?
  • Exactly Sixties, I'm really disgusted and offended also and to drag Foz into the agenda at this time is the pits!

Never mind what we have endured as a club the past few months, this whole new wave of leaks has obviously been drummed up to hasten the the NRLs preferred outcome.

I think it's deliberate, else how else do ppl like Hooper get the recent info published? It worked earlier on us and it's working now.

If we don't get the chance to question for eg manager involvement, that benefits a whole pile of ppl, clubs. It would definitely be a preferred outcome for NRL that managers are not questioned in transparent manner or called into give evidence of their direct involvement with officials of clubs in acquiring and negotiating TPAs for their clients.

Heck all roads may even lead straight to all NRL CEOs and ex's also as we know from our own minutes...could get very ugly for some.
  • Great blog Sixties and I can't agree enough with the sentiment.

The question really has to be asked, what if anything will be the catalyst that puts the vultures back in their cages? Because Parramatta can't move on in this kind of environment with this kind of toxicity from all angles.

How do we turn the tide? How do we stop trying to put out fires and actually start the positive steps so we're reported on as a club with hope, with a future? Because the current environment is horrible and it appears some "journalists" are happy to scrape the scum right from the bottom of the barrel.
    • I have no answers. But surely there are limitations as to how far some will go. How about some sense of human compassion for starters.
  • Me too, I'm livid and this is far more that just messing with the Eels. This has crossed the line and is just putrid.  It's never going to end!

  • That's exactly it sixties!
