The next Hooker

Now Peats is gone, and time will tell if he will be better with Gold Coast or injury prone player who never reached his full potential. But it is a loss that's unfortunate. Now we have De Gois who will do the job, he's not special but gives his all and hardly does anything wrong. He's actually quite underrated as a player, but we found him irrelevant cause we had Peats fair enough.

The problem with De Gois? age. 32 at years end, would suggest he only has 1-2 years left.

So raises the question, who's our no.9 of the future?

1.Kaysa Pritchard: The logical choice, as he signed for a further 2 years. Only 11 games experience and can play in the backrow, plays like hes a front-rower, has a lot of heart. The concern is injury prone. Now Hookers will be injury prone, being such a demanding position in terms of defence, but Pritchard has been hurt quite a bit throughout the years. Debuting in 2013, appearing 11 times in 4 years wasn't all because he needed development, it was also due to him being injured. And Kaysa showed glimpses of being a great attacking Hooker and seems to have a great workload, but didn't wow me to the point where I saw him as the future. I still preferred Peats and De Gois over him. He should've been still 14 if he was good enough.

My opinion, I hope I'm wrong but idk

2.Cameron King: Havent seen a lot of him to judge, however hasn't wowed me when I have seen him. just your average hooker. More likely suited to depth than starter.

3.Nelson: He played one game there, and got man of the match. Limited in terms of attack due to lack of speed, but great defender. More of a utility than a straight up starting Hooker.

4.Troy Dargan: Hear me out, I know he's 18, and plays half. But if you develop him to play possibly by 2018, when De Gois gives it a miss, he could work out. He is a tremendous talent, and unfortunately will not get a go with Norman or Foran at the club. Making him a Hooker can work, seeing him as a decent defender for now, he can work on defence to get him ready for first grade. Just creating discussion.

5. Buying an U20's hooker: On cheap, buying a good 20's hooker to start will be ideal. Like a Jayden Brailey at Cronulla or Tristan Pope at Brisbane. Maybe not start them straight away but in time will be good 10-12 year hookers for us. could defiantly have on bench til they're good enough to start. Doubt it will be an option, depends on Norman's upgrade and if we have 100K left over at least to offer.

If I had to choose. Id go with Naming De Gois for 1 more year and let Dargan have a shot at becoming a hooker and Pritchard to win the job.

  • Im predicting we will go with Nelson to partner IDG along with KP in the short term, and be targeting Segeyaro for next year.

    • Would we be able to afford him next year?, guaranteed that after Norman gets a pay rise Nrl will watch us like a hawk and punish us by taking some of our cap off. something will happen to stop us buying big players

    • I don't get why Segeyaro keeps getting mentioned

    • We won't be buying any more 9's. It will be IDG for one more year and the other two as backup. Coaching staff have wraps on the two youngsters.
  • Will the Club get stormed by Supporters if deGois picks up a season ending injury on Friday night after we just let go of one of the top 4 hookers in the game

  • I think nelson has alot to offer
  • When I saw the blog heading thought it was one of Slips blogs in the Cave........

Not first choice but thought Cody Nelson went alright in hooker the couple of times he played there last year. Would have Kaysa start and Nelson on the bench

  • He's worth has dropped a lot with injury and theres rumblings over there regarding him.

Hes close mates with a few eels players and has said hed love to play with Corey, i know BA would love to get his hands on him for a good price.

I believe we will have room to move next year but thats yet to be seen, who knows how much carry over from this fiasco will effect us next year.

Its a new year next year, and as all clubs do we can back end a deal if we want to and really need to.

    • We won't be targeting an injury prone, Segeyaro.
      Neither should we.
      • We'll be one of the front-runners in the race for Segeyaro.

"De Belin will do a lot of the clean up work, the 3rd man in for our defence. Hopgood is now not alone in that area. He will not be flashy but he will definately do his job."

"positives are Loiero is out. That is a big piece of their middle, he does a lot of clean up work in defence, tightens up the attack. No Katoa and they are umming and arring whether to play Ativalu Lasati or Joe Chan on right edge.
