The Moon And Sixpence or The Moon And An Earthquake.

Tonight, at 10 .20 pm, the moon will be closer to earth than at any time in the last seventy odd years. People predicted that there would be a major earthquake as a consequence. Lo and behold, the New Zealand 7.5 quake yesterday! All those "Christians" who believed all that twaddle about life after death, and the soul and Quantum Mechanics had better get their bibles and stay outdoors until the moon has done its thing and moved on. Don't forget about a tsunami if you live near the coast. All the best and pleasant dreams--not about quantum mechanics please!

  • Yeah the super moon 68 years, my son came home from school talking about it
  • Robert this is very interesting, we've had some serious crack pots turn up here in the last few days, this has got to be the moon, how much closer is it ?

    • About 7% closer. Which given the diameter makes it appear about 14% wider in the sky.
    • Snake: I don't know. There was talk on BBC TV News this morning by an expert but I missed it! Yobs says 7% closer --seems to know what he is talking about so I will go with him on that. Since I blogged about this, NZ has been hit by another sever quake. About 6.5 on the scale. None hurt, but plenty of damage. Provides some evidence that the moon may have an effect. Need more quakes in other countries to be convincing--let it not be in OZ!

  • The moon has an elliptical orbit. However it is not necessarily always a "full moon" when it reaches its closest point to Earth (due to orbit of Earth around the Sun).

    Moon distance:
    Min Distance: 356,509 km
    Average distance: 382,900 kilometers
    Max distance: 405,000 kms
  • Does it look as good as the one 70 years ago Robert?
    • lol
  • I'm not sure what the moon has to do with last week's discussion. Given that if the moon is closer to Earth though, it seems quite feasible the stronger gravity could have an effect on the earth. These forces would be pulling on the liquid mantle, causing the tectonic plates to move - voila earthquakes and tsunamis.
  • Think there is more chance that all these dickhead countries that keep detonating nukes in the earths crust for so called testing purposes play a bigger role than the moon!

    • All I know is that astrologically it means big life changes and I am trying to run with that!!
