THE NRL is set to clear former Sydney Roosters bad boy Willis Meehan to play for Parramatta next week.

A superb all round athlete and junior boxing champion, Meehan has been desperate to kick-start his league career after being sacked by the Roosters following an assault charge in 2015.

Last week I wrote that Meehan had agreed to terms with the Eels but the stumbling block was getting cleared by the NRL Integrity Unit.

But sources have told me that Meehan – who has been likened in build and style to the great Sonny Bill Williams – will get the green light to join the Eels next week.

A former Australian amateur super-heavyweight champion, Meehan, aged still only 21, has unfinished business in boxing.

He has a bout scheduled in Sydney next Friday against Danny Rio and the Eels have agreed to let him fight one more time before resuming his league career.

Meehan played one top grade game for the Roosters in 2014 and will be a handy mid-season addition to the aggressive Eels pack.

  • I'm quite excited. We desperately need a big body urgently. This kid has talent. Imagine if we can keep him focussed. Look out.
    • Agreed
  • Hopefully. That way he can work on getting back to playing weight before pre-season. Also good to see we're adding size to our pack. Both Evans and Meehan are 195cm+ and 115-120kgs.
    • Some much needed height to our pack.  Awesome!

    • Ham have read that Evans is 110Kg which he looks to be sitting at, no fat in the body though.

I doubt that Meehan will be an instant run on in the NRL team, he will come through Wenty, and I would think he will be a big plus for them and as he gains some match fitness at that level he should certainly make those above him play more consistently than they have been. Wonder how mobile he is for a big man?

    • Evans is a cat tho he plays like Michael Vella did at the end of his career at parra I know a lot of roosters supporters & none of them are disappointed he's leaving they all say he was the next big thing when he was in the 20's but he hasn't improved at all since then
  • 6'5, 145kgs

    • I don't think he is 145kgs anymore.

    • He was fighting at about 129kg, actually a very handy boxer for a big bloke.

If he can apply himself he could be anything, natural athlete even though hes a big lad.

Id see him more as a project player this year, hes only played 1 game of first grade i think but really looking forward to seeing him get a crack if he can get himself into that position.

    • Ron, if he was 145kg he wouldn't be fit enough to box and he would need to lose 20kg to play footy.  His nature body weight is 115kg.  If he now weights over 120kg he has become a porky.

"Yes but it's no secret we were pursuing him first.  Hence my point, he had no aspirations to play for us whatsoever.  Whilst I'm not against the signing ( any signing is a positive when our recruitment are fucking morons ) , I'm sick of hearing this…"

"Great stuff. JAC's contract has been handled perfectly. A one year plus club option to see how he'd perform. JAC played exceptionally well and now we give him 2 more years. Well played everyone. "
