The Mighty Cumberland Black Comes to Sydney

The dog, regarded by many as the Black Caviar of greyhound racing, will have his first start in Sydney on Saturday.

Many of you will remember that a group of us 1Eyed Eel members got involved with a greyhound syndication and we've been watching our boy - Cumberland Black - ply his trade for a little while now.

He was formerly trained in Melbourne but has shifted to NSW and since moving to the better state he has put together a 2nd, 1st and 2nd. Last start at Gosford he jumped out last before just missed out on catching the leader, and subsequently he'll have his first Sydney city start at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

He actually had surgery before this preparation, as he had nut problems and they've been removed. However, he's actually run better since the surgery. I believe that any Eel player not performing should undergo the same procedure and it seems to be effective.

Unfortunately he's drawn Gate Six which probably won't suit him, but regardless it will be great to see our Eel doing his stuff at Wenty! Race 3, 8:08pm. If he wins, I'll definitely shout a round at the Christmas party! :-)

Here's his last two runs.

  • I just pop in those little errors to make sure you're paying attention.

    • Hi Phil,

Nice dog that. Chases hard and can jump and win or come from behind and still win. Got a few myself and they are great animals.  Good luck in the big smoke. Never had one that could get 520m so no luck getting a gig at Wenty.

  • Hope everyone can come see he race and support him hope see you all there wearing your blue and gold jumpers .I will be there with bells on cant wait.

"True Poppa, having someone that can fill both spots in a pinch. I reckon last time we had that was probably Finch in 2010's. Norman could take control but effected his game too much. "

"I wonder if Ryles prefers a rookie or someone who has FG experience. Galvin and Smith fit that bill. But Sanders, being left footed too, could be an option. Though i do find it very odd, surprising to myself too, that Sanders has not been close to…"

"Ok so you are overall saying how the club handled Brown with not overreacting? I thought your post was that we handled him deciding to leave well. That is where i was going with it. "
