THE MEDIA AND THE EELS

Once again the channel 9 news was nil when it came to be who would be forced out once Jarryd came.

The only player interviewed was Corey Norman. Are they trying to insinuate that he will be the one to go.

Once again the media outlets love to give it to Parra because they have a great following nationally and believe any publicity about them will get people either watching their outlets or reading their publicity.

Add Jarryd Hayne to the mix then you can guarantee that at least once a week in the media there will be a story about Parra or Hayne.

2016 all over again

  • Haynes TPP must be the media!

  • It’s probably THE biggest drawback to Hayne at our club.

In 2017 we flew under the radar and finished 4th. We sat back and watched the Titans implode and Hayne was every headline.

Whilst I know he won’t cause us to implode (he’ll be shown the door before that can happen) he’ll still be the subject of gossip and innuendo in the press. The media will attempt to make us out as a club in crisis. It’s annoying but it’s unavoidable for 2018. Just be ready for it.

    • Fair comment Mutts.  No doubt that when he arrives at the club for his first training day, which will be in a couple of weeks as it was reported on the news tonight that he was to begin training with the eels before the Christmas break.

I would think that all players will front up for the last week and be assessed on how they are going, especially as some were in the WC, and allowed time off to compensate, but all would need that week long or close to it for appraisal and given a instructions on what they need to do during the break to keep their fitness at a high level, been the case for a while now.

  • Put a media ban on Hayne. When he has to fulfill NRL media obligations as per their regulations answer Darius Boyd style pre 2015 style. Give the media nothing and sponsors and fans your time instead.
    • Bup, not sure that would achieve anything, what Hayne and others have to do is ignore obvious questions that are designed to entrap them, in fact I believe that the club needs to carefully control who they allow to be interviewed at all.

    • You don’t need the news and print media these days to develop your brand Colin. Social media’s king and the club can dictate it’s own narrative.
Media interviews are apart of your clubs obligations but you can have the players cite their favourite piece of poetry or read children’s books if you like. They’re to be made available the answers they give or what they says up to them. I’d love to see them sing the team song at these media gatherings then walk away.
    • parra never fails to make headlines
  • lol
  • I think being in the NRL your in the spot. I just think the media does target individuals for example, have you ever read.... Which player having an affair with a team mates wife. Or who the representative player not popular with his team mate? If it's one of our player, boom up in lights. Yes for some reason the papers have turned on Jarryd but it's now up to him to play the game.
