The last time we debuted a position

All the talk of brad arthurs unwillingness to debut players had me thinking on when we actually last debuted a position. After doing abit of research i found thisBack: The last back (and player) we debuted was bevan french against the knights in 2016. At that time foran was still an eel, donald trump wasnt president and the best player at the knights was nathan rossHalfback: the last halfback we debuted (to start a game) was jeremy smith who debuted 12 years ago in 2006. He went on to play 13 games for us with his most noted highlight at the eels was pushing a referee. Since then we have let go of james maloney, blake green and trent hodkinson who have all gone on to have extremely successful careers. Far more successful than any halfback we have brought in since thenForward: Daniel alvaro was the last forward to debut for parramatta back in 2015. He is in fact the second last player to debut for the eels and has since played over 50 first grade games. Originally he was not mesnt to play and was limited to five minutes a game by BA at the time. Since we last debuted alvaro our opposition this week have debuted the likes bill kikau, fisher harris And moses leota who are all destructive forwards who have massive futures.I can Also thinkof some other positions like hooker (kaysa pritchard) but indont believe these are dconcernigbas to what ive mentioned above. Can any of you think of the last tome we debuted other players??

  • Concerning* instead of what i wrote before. Apologies it is quite difficult write a blog on a phone
  • Theres been none others apart what youve mentioned and Tep, and all those debutants were here before Brad got here and we were desperate for players so he had no choice.

Brad no doubt would have had a hand and advised Cayless was the right man for Wenty coach which has completely fucked us.

Brads created an environment where theres no competition for spots or quality below him and zero accountability in 1st grade, were seriously regressing now and theres not much planning for the future either, especially leadership wise.

  • The loss of those halfbacks over the years is really quite concerning, considering we have been looking for a top line half since 1992. The loss of quality juniors is something that has been a major issue for many years and as is plain to see, the club has had little success since then.

I'm wondering whether part of the problem with debuting juniors has to do with salary cap pressures. ie if they play top grade they are taking a top 30 spot (or 25 as it once was). We have not built these debuts into the plan and hence we only do this when injuries force us to (as was the case with French). Other clubs seem to be better able to make a call on juniors and budget for them playing at least half a dozen games in the NRL.

    • hey longfin . we have to making excuses for this management. retaining quality juniors  is a farce.recruiting  quality 1st graders? how can you afford 2 sign star players when you paying top $ for the likes of scott  evans  mannah  hayne  matagi hoffman vave  and others .they keep saying parramatta is the heartland of the west . huge leagues club new stadium huge business community  punters should be kicking our doors down with t.p.a. offers.we need a talent scout like crusher ( bring him back ) to identify and sign players early in their career. re jamie lyon   andrew ryan. hindy etc .our whole club needs a brian smith overhaul

  • No no no, Jeremy Smith's most noted highlight was getting mistaken for the "Good" Jeremy Smith

  • Hey if we kept all those halves we would never of got Norman... Think about it people!!

  • Falou, but was crap, Nathan Davis, but was crap.. BA can’t really bring a junior in if we don’t have any that are good enough it’s simple.
    • David debut for gold coast before returning here
    • Easy mistake to make with Davis though, I can see where ur coming from cos the first game he played for us looked like it was the first time he ever attempted to play Rugby League

    • The thing is with Davis, he was singled out and touted an absolute star in the making in his u20s days along with a heap of others including matterson and twal.

There could be one of two problems.

      1. Firstly, leaving players like Nikuore and Twal in reserve grade for years absolutely destroys their confidence. Then they start doubting themselves on whether they will ever be good enough for the nrl and wonder if they've made the right career move.
We all saw what twal can do at the tigers once he got a chance.

      2. The entire coaching staff may not have the knowledge to bring these players to the next step, resulting in stunted progression.

I think its a mixture of botb at Parramatta
