The importance of Eric Grothe

I've said any number of times this year how important Eric Grothe's early hit ups were to the team and it really showed tonight. Instead of getting onto the front foot early in the set our smaller backs were getting smashed and we never looked like getting a roll on.Anyone who wasn't worried about the possibility of Guru going to Rugby next year, should think again.

  • For me, this simply signifies how each player in our team contributes to our overall performance.

While players like Hayne and Feleti are constantly praised (and deservedly so!), every player in our squad can be distinguished on something important in which they do. Eric is solid in his hit ups, Robbo is crucial in defence, Fui's blistering runs are crucial and the perseverance of Morts is something which is crucial too. I could go on, but will spare you all.

Each player forms a piece of the puzzle, and as tonight, when pieces go missing, our side is simply not the same!
  • Never ignore Guru's facebook messages again!
    • he told us he was off!!!!
  • Totally agree
Grothe is a gun and is everything you want in one of these big wingers
Reddy doesn't have enough weight behind him to make as much impact from a 1st hit up like Grothe and it was soooooo obvious tonight. In my eyes Grothe is totally under rated
    • psssssh
  • spot on Phil & Mary, he is an integral part of our squad and piece of our puzzle
  • Grothe makes Cayless look sooooooooo much better than he actually is. It showed tonight.
  • Cayless made ground cause he ran it more, but he really didn't bend the line back at all, especially out of our own red zone where we need it most.
