The ideal size for Parramatta Stadium

As the debate has continued surrounding the development of Parramatta stadium, it is essential for forward thinking and to consider future needs, not just immediate needs. For mine, a high-tech stadium around the same size as the SFS would be the ideal size. Anything larger puts two huge stadiums far too close to each other. A stadium with a 30000 capacity would only meet current needsNaturally, a 40000 capacity stadium would require a rethink on the surrounding infrastructure. A full house right now creates traffic headaches around the stadium. That's where town planners and transport experts come into the equation.A new stadium built in any other location meets no needs whatsoever. The Eels and Wanderers brands will only get larger. Don't forget, the original plan for Parramatta Stadium was for a 50000 stadium (and then the greenies put a stop on that and we needed special legislation to build a more expensive and yet lower quality stadium.)The population of Sydney will soon make it one of the largest cities in the Western World. It is ludicrous to think that two stadiums will meet both the sporting and entertainment needs for a city that supports 4 major football codes. Think about it - WE ALREADY HAVE VENUE BOOKING CLASHES BECAUSE DIFFERENT CODES USE THE SAME STADIUMS! We have seen that the AFL is seen as the prime resident at Homebush when a potential clash occurs. So if this mooted rebuild comes to fruition, let's not build for the now, let's build for the future.

  • The other concern is that if a planned minor rebuild is started, I don't like the chances for any major development in the near future.
  • 35-40k, then we would never feel the need to shift games to ANZ.

    • Exactly! Anyway, ANZ already has enough tenants.
  • Would certain guests have to check their weapons before entering said boxes? Haha, weapons and boxes!
  • I think that it extends beyond the needs of WSW and the Eels. Sydney needs an extra stadium to meet the needs of the growing population and the pressure of four football codes.
There is no more money for suburban grounds. So all of the Sydney NRL clubs will be forced to use Sydney or Homebush! A new stadium at Parramatta will be vital.
As for infrastructure, changes and development will be needed regardless of a larger stadium being there or not. You don't just throw your hands up and say it can't be done. You plan for the future, because planning for the now immediately leaves you outdated.
  • There's some simple stuff they could do straight away to improve the traffic/parking situation. I'd happily catch the M54 bus to and from games, but it stops running too early. It won't get you home from a Friday night game, or a 7:30 Saturday game. 5:30 Saturday games are OK if you rush to catch the last one. Run the buses an extra hour, include free public transport with tickets and I'd never drive again.

  • I wonder if my Alma Mater across the road OLMC Parramatta would sell off some space for us for more carparking lol

  • A small stadium for a growing club can create unrest among supporters if you can't get in to see the games. Obviously this is not a current issue, but WSW are getting close and a successful Parra in a growing Western Sydney will be in hat position in the future.
