Not sure if this has been mentioned previously but I have it on good authority that BA is considering playing a hooker for 80 minutes and who he will pick.

Coming out of the blue from third place to first in the pecking order, and depending on fixing his defensive flaws, Cameron King WILL be the starting hooker AND will play 80 minutes.

This will result in all the new recruit forwards starting. I anticipate that one of the bench forwards, probably Edwards (depending on his court appearance), will slot into dummy half if King injured. King was considered the next big thing when first debuting but injuries have curtailed his career. He is a creative dummy half and can no doubt kick as played most of last season in the halves for Wenty.

The roster for 2017 is shaping up nicely with this fixing one of our problems with the spine.

  • It was discussed here Glenn.

Cameron King could become Parramatta’s first choice hooker in 2017
James Phelps, The Daily Telegraph December 31, 2016 5:24pm RUGBY league is full of comeback stories but Cameron King’s is surely one of the most…
  • Personally, I don't think King's body can cope with the week-to-week rigours of playing 80 minutes. That said, Kaysa hasn't proven he can do that either.
So really, the only option is IDG as much as some fans don't like him.

  • I think our major issue is the spine, will be interesting to see who gets first bite at the cherry
  • 9: K Pritchard
    14: C King
  • I watched a few of his games in 2016 and he didn't impress me in the lower grade.  I don't know what he has done to leap frog IDG and Kaysa?  The only thing would be is that BA thinks neither IDG or Kaysa are suitable to play 80 minutes and he thinks King can?

King's defence is worse then IDG, Kaysa and Robson and he offers not much in attack, but does have a kicking game like Robson and does have a pretty good passing game.  Ironically I don't recall King playing 80 minutes much in second grade if at all as we carried 2 hookers for the most part.

For King to be the first choice hooker he has to have a top 25 contract, which would mean that Kaysa and Robson are both second tier under 85K.

I do have a big concern around his defence and that he is quite slow, but I trust in BA and if BA thinks he is more suitable then our other options I'm happy for him to have a crack.  In hindsight it does seem a big strange that BA promoted Kaysa in 2016 after Peats left and not King.

    • Due to injuries in the halves last year, King played a good portion of the year in the halves for Wenty.
  • You have been misled
    • Well we only have 2 months left to find out.

  • Recon you might be spot on Glenn, from all reports King is in the front runner to start at hooker this year.

    • How many hookers do we have in the top 25?  I don't recall ever having more then two.  IDG is top 25 and I'd assumed either Kaysa or Robson would be the back up top 25 hooker?  It seems weird why Kaysa was selected in the NRL last year in front of King when both were second tier.  I didn't even think King was our best hooker in second grade last season.
