The Facts on Fa'aoso

After much conjecture, here are the facts:It is entirely an insurance issue. When Richie was injured he was medically retired and insurance paid out on this. Obviously, insurance companies now look at this "comeback" and go hang on, what's this. For their part, the NRL as underwriters of any proposed policy must make sure that it meets certain criteria. There are conditions that can be met for acceptance of a policy in 12 months but not now. (I was told some of the ins and outs but it's confusing insurance stuff). In a nutshell, Parramatta are having trouble with the insurance side of things. They are still trying to work it out but he might not play this year. He would be clear for next year.

  • That really sucks for him

  • Yes, but in this day and age it's half expected. It became different to Ben Ross because of his medically diagnosed retirement.
  • Thank you for those facts as the previous info was not clear and inferred that he didn't have 3 Doctors supporting his return.  I'm guessing that if he/club repaid the monies he received upon medically retiring he would be right to play but I'm guessing it is a large amount of money that Richard probably doesn't have any more.

    • I couldn't answer that. I know it's different, but can you imagine taking out some sort of work insurance, getting a medical report that says you can't work, getting a payout then a year or so later applying for work insurance again.
  • Yes. He'll most likely start the year in NSW cup though.

  • Difficult legal issue.  I'd take a good guess that if the money was repaid to the insurance company he would be allowed to return this year, but he may have been paid 3 to 4 years pay and we could be talking about 100-150K x 4 in monies paid out to him.  It could be the case that he would be playing for little to no money for the next several seasons if he had to pay a big bill back.  Seems a little unusual that there are legal conditions allowing him to return next year but not this year?  Due to the seriousness of the injury another 12 months away from the game may be a safe move physically.

  • Thanks mate, it all makes sense now.

"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
