The Eels fuming at the NRL

The Lurker returns just in time for the weekend with goss on a growing feud between the Eels and the NRL, a star winger's futile search for a new club and the Dragons' desperate bid to win back the faithful

Johnston may have to wing it
Boom Souths winger Alex Johnston has hit a major hurdle as he chases his dream of playing fullback in the NRL.

Most of the clubs are already well placed for fullbacks in an era when the competition among the No1's is at an all-time high.

Wanting to play fullback rules him out of Storm (Billy Slater), Manly (Brett Stewart), Bulldogs (Brett Morris) Wests Tigers (James Tedesco), Sharks (Valentine Holmes), Dragons (Josh Dugan), Raiders (Jack Wighton), Panthers (Matt Moylan), Broncos (Jordan Kahu), Warriors (Sam Tomkins), Eels (Will Hopoate) and Roosters (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck).

It shows fullback is not a priority for most of the clubs - and Johnston is struggling to find a big-money contract as a result.

At present, it looks like Johnston will re-sign with Souths for another 12 months and stay on the wing - and then chase the big bucks on the open market.

Angry Eels
Relations between Parramatta and the NRL have hit an all-time low in recent weeks.

The Eels are filthy with headquarters over a variety of issues including the concussion debate, the slowness in clearing injured forward Richie Fa'aoso and the salary cap.

Then this week, Parra asked the NRL to help promote one of their biggest games of the year – Monday's clash with the Tigers at ANZ Stadium.

The NRL eventually came to the party - but late in the week when their assistance wasn't as effective as it could have been.

Parra are fuming, joining a growing list of clubs dis-satisfied with the way the game is run at the moment.

Dragons fans wanted
The Dragons are taking drastic measures to win back their disgruntled fans.

The club has hired consultants who are calling fans who have not renewed their membership, asking them what the problems are and whether they would re-consider joining up again.

Some have been impressed and come to the party - but I'm hearing many more are giving the hapless consultants an earful about the way the club is run.

Walker can then…"
