Parramatta has built a squad with great potential, but our overall football education is way below the top premiership contenders. The Eels are only slightly above average and struggle to beat teams in the top 8 all things being equal , losses to St George and Manly prove that point.
Credit to Brad Arthur and Mark Oneill, the Eels have improved its squad nicely and have some great individual performers, but lack the coaching nous in what's needed to make a grand final is becoming glaringly evident.
Our attack looks unplanned, slow, frazzled and clunky, our turtle slow play the balls are an embarrassment, especially when players like Sivo aren't coached to just play the ball quickly, and our defensive problems out wide are glaringly unfixed. We are just a team who can't build pressure as a Clearyless Panthers did last night. A Cleary led side would have lapped us, and Melbourne under normal conditions would easily put an embarrassing score on the Eels.
The players need more education and new ideas, but Brad Arthur has opted to stick closely to his brotherly coaching assistants, which will eventually prove to be Brad's downfall.
We are nowhere the club to match the big teams in the finals, and we may never be under Arthur as his stubbornness to recruit new assistants will come back to haunt him.
We can only hope that Mark O'Neil overrides Brad's relationships with his assistants, to overhaul and rehire in time for 2022.

And somehow we are sitting third. Sometimes Parra supporters can't see the wood for the trees.
Sitting 3rd means zero if you can't win a premiership. A team could sit 3rd for 10 years straight but if they don't win a premiership what does it really amount to?
Your view of being 3rd as being some recognition is pretty poor mate. If you want to be a winner, you have to be the very best and beat the very best. Unfortunately our squad is not and the coaching staff are piss poor. BA is a stubborn fool, granted his best job during his time at the eels has been getting them from cellar dwellers to being in finals contention regurlarly. We need to move on and find a coach with the killing instinct, to lead us to a grandfinal. I don't see us getting there under BA at all.
I don't know how we can be average if we are sitting third. Simple primary school maths confirms that.
LOL. Math is brutal, sometimes.
We won't be for too much longer - looked at our draw lately?
Sea Eagles will jump us...
We beat Melbourne and lost to Penrith by one point. Not bad really.
Unfortunately I agree
We should be overtaken by Souths this weekend. I hope we are not on the slippery slide.
Finished top 4 and bounced out in 2 weeks last year.
That will be what BA is judged on where we finish.
If you put us in head to head contests played right now with the other 4 teams in the top 5. We wouldn't beat any
