In 2010 a season after our glorious GF run, in games that ended in less than a 6 point or less difference we won 3 lost 5 missing the finals for 4 points.

In 2011, we lost 8!!!! won 3 missing the finals by 12 points.

This season we stand at won 5, lost one. Hence we are in the top 8.

It goes for any sport that most close games are won by good teams who have strong spirit.

I think anyone would prefer winning ugly than losing pretty.

I don't think it comes down to luck either, you make your luck and take your chances. We always seem to have someone that makes something happen out of the blue. We now have several match winners in our ranks like Guth, French, Semi, Mitch, Corey and Jenko. Just like the great Parra back line of the 80's with the Guru, Ella, the Crow, Kenny and Sterling would magically pull something out of their ass and usually it was gold.

Just look at what Kenny did to the Saints with the season looking gone. One dummy was enough to draw in 4 defenders and put Grothe in the corner.

  • Such a valid point - "most close games are won by good teams who have strong spirit"

  • As bad as we played it never looked like we would lose. You always knew Norman and Moses had it under control, where as years gone by you'd be reaching for the respirator
    • There where nervous moments in today's game, but you are right those close wins could be a difference of playing finals football or missing out. Past seasons we would have lost this game. Let's enjoy the win and bring on the Broncos.
  • We have basically won every game we have had a right to win this year.
    • Agreed except for that titans game but I think we learnt from that. But there where a few games we expected to lose and we won.
  • 2011 was very frustrating to watch.2010 just as bad the missed conversion by Burt from right in front which put us out of contention. With every year after 2009 you could just feel the promise of great things slipping further away, the realization that as good as Hayne was he really couldn't win a comp.on his own and he was never going to be as good as he was in those immaculate 9 games in 2009.The team got worse every year, Cayless and Hindy retired Fui got too old then came Kearney and Stuart, the cap cheating,Israel Falou,
Sandow, Foran, fuck me what a very bleak period the last 8 years have been , but like a pheonix rising from the ashes of despair the mighty Parra Eels once again.........sorry got carried away.GO EELS!!!
    • You forgot the signing of Papali.
We actually released a media statement with his contractual details signing off by saying how much of an astute purchase we'd made only to almost unbeleivably realising he had reneged out of the deal a few days later.
  • Terrible win by a team that should be winning and flogging these sides.
  • I agree with tin tim we should of flog the tigers we were lucky they were taking 2 points at a time not 4 or 6
