The curious case of Jarryd Hayne

Not going to lie. I love Hayne. My best and greatesr memories of the Eels are thanks to him. At his best there is none better.
But here's the odd thing. It seems in order for Hayne to perform the team needs to be doing terribly. When there is seemingly nothing to play for is when he performs. In 2009 he performed a miracle when we were gone. In 2014 he won the Daily M even though we failed to make the 8.

Why is that? Why is it impossible for him to be consistently great?

  • Credit to him for getting in shape and putting in the last few weeks even though there were moments of him being very lazy off the ball, hes been generally good.

But is he just putting in because his future depends on it and its contract time?

Will this form last for 2 years after hes been signed?

    Its hard to know.

    • Hayne all over, all the above. Does it all the time. Worth a 1 yr extension yes. 2 yrs or more not at the moment. Think 1 yr than the 2 yr is best for Hayne.
  • Put him in his proper position. FMD. Best fullback in our team. Best player on our team. Give him ghe ball for f$%k sake.
  • Thought the same the other night. Hayne on fire and the rest of the team is shite.

He leaves, we would have made the finals in 16 and made the top 4 in 17.

GC didn’t exactly fire when he was there either. What he gives on the field, he takes away from team cohesion. I wouldn’t be signing him as I’m not bluffed by a few good games before contract.

  • Hayne’s form is due to his vegan lifestyle.
    French should try it
  • Hayne's best will be 2019 if he stays injury free.. hope he's still at the eels.
    • Whether you're for or against Hayne, you can see his fitness is returning. Which is allowing his form to improve measurably. And in a team, like ours, short of attacking prowess, its essential he gets more ball.

Assume for a moment he still refuses to put his hand up for No 6 duty, fullback remains the only role left where he can get his hands on the ball more. Even if he is a tad off total fitness he'll still be able to achieve more in attack than he's currently able to thru lack of ball.

I'd like to see him resigned on a 1 year deal, get a full off-season and start '19 refreshed, energised and bringing the ball back and linking up with Fergo or Gennings.........shades of Taka to the "Trailer."

      That's our best option.

    • The hot milk is going cold son.

  • He made me cheer so hard when he made those breaks the other night. He is Parras messiah when he is on like that.
