The crusher tackles

it's good to see that BA Fired up , because other coaches like to use excuses when they lose to us and it becomes the narrative .

now those crusher tackles incidents , I admit I thought there was bit of milking when it happened to win a row , and then for next 10 minutes look closely at the tackles .

the storm are deadset grubs and BA should have said that at the presser. They were constantly at the head of the eels players in the tackles and I was comparing our tackles at same time we were nowhere near their heads .

the only reason we somewhat GOT FAIR reffing as the refs boss was not on the field tonite

anyway good win , hopefully it means we have the monkey off our back , as whatever you think of the performance we have psychological issues with storm dating back decades of finals losses.

- confirmed by Hindmarsh , oh fuck we have the storm

- we seem to change our game plan every time we play them ( we haven't played that expansive in months and everyone e expects the plays to stick )

- the storm generally play flawless footy against us , similar to the roosters this year . The only time they had amazing completions all year was against us , rest of the year their attack was like ours last night full of errors

  • Honestly im a bit fed up of Sivo trying milk crusher tackles and complaining every tackle

    • Have you ever thought that opposition use his head or illegal tactics each time to slow his play the ball . He gets through the Line and entitled to quick play the ball most kick returns but not allows to play quickly

      • Great observation Kenny. Slow us right down from the first tackle in our set, seems a common sense approach for opposing teams to have a go and in storms case any means possible.

besides who are we to know what hurts  or not!

        1. Interesting. I actually think Sivo rarely punches through the line. A bit soft in the tough runs. Gets smashed and dominated most of the time. He is equal to, if not worse than Hayne was in regards to terribly slow play the ball, killing any momentum in the set. Lazy. No effort to fight for quick play the ball, so defenders are given the benefit of the doubt when lying on him. If he actually fought to get up, we may get a few more 6 again. Even once the defenders are off him, he is so slow to get to his feet. Not good enough effort wise in such a basic area of the game.
    • Same for me, Sivo is starting to give me the shits with all his carrying on.

  • I thought the first one by Cooper Johns was genuinely unintentional, and it shouldn’t have been a penalty, but the second by Albert Vete when he went in with the 2nd effort was prett bad.

I don’t think our guys “stayed down” as such, I’ve no doubt they were hurt, but if the bunker is gonna get involved, well this is gonna happen.

The issue is players turning in the tackle, and that is happening because they’re protecting themselves from the 3rd man in the tackle going in low, which in turn has been caused by how little we reward the classic around the ankles leg tackle in the modern game.

Fix that and, over time, this problem goes away.

    • Yeh I've always thought that one v one tackles should get more leeway in play the ball and when it's more than one in tackle they need to peel off quicker

I also think the explosion of backing into defence more is coming about the stupid strip rule as I think players are trying to protect the ball more . Tackles are allowed to go for an age now with players trying to strip

      • Absolutely, the one on one legs tackle is friendless in the modern game, and I don’t know why, it’s a great aspect of the game. Every time you see one it’s brilliant. I’m thinking Dylan Brown’s beauty on Frizell last week, it wasn’t a legs tackle, but it was a brilliant one on one ball and all tackle, that should be rewarded.

Jake Trebjovic, Reed Mahoney, Ray Stone, Victor Radley, Brandon Smith, all great techniques

        • Stone has great tackling techniques and were on show last night, in one front one tackle putting one of the big Storm forwards on his back with Stone around both legs at knee level, wonderful!

          • Yep Col it was a pearler, think it was on solomona

You have said it for years and it rings true, NZ and Fiji of the likes have so much untapped potential that we should get in on. Get them over at…"
