THE COST OF SUCCESS?

I was interested to see what players the Cowboys have on short contracts / ending soon. Going by Zero tackle, the Cowboys have a massive 22 players with contracts finishing at the end of 2023. Obviously, with the huge improvement in many of their players this year and the inclusion of a 17th team starting next year, many of these players are in for a big pay rise.

In saying this, the Cowboys' improvement thus far in 2022 has been helped via their draw. Of their 14 games so far 11 have been in Queensland, 1 game at Darwin, 1 in Canberra, and only 1 in Sydney. They have also only played 5 times against the current top 8 sides. They have played 5 games against the current bottom 4 sides, 8 games against the bottom 6 sides.

By no means am I saying the 2022 Cowboys are not a threat? Confidence, youth, and speed mixed in with the direction and leadership can be very dangerous. The coaching and conditioning staff have done one hell of a job up in Townsville.

  • The best internal salary cap operators keep their best improving players and cut players which they feel may have already peaked. In many instances the retention group have somewhat failed with this at the eels.  People like brissy and Muttman can defend this all they like, but most realistic eels fans can see the club will struggle to match the best teams in 2023 and possibly even miss the 8 completely.

            • Yes because its very unusual for a supporter to jump ship, unless they're like in kindergarten haha.  I've never heard of this. Plus you're from nsw originally anyway

          • Brissy, your behaviour every day here shows who the real bully is, your projections dont fool anybody, your behaviour speaks for itself, on a daily basis, the only person who cant see it is you.

        • Add biggest hypocrite to the list.

      • Sorry brissy but I'm not sure you can say the improving spine remains intact when we have lost an important part of that spine in Mahoney.

    • It must be terrible for you when we win.

      • That response is not even close to responding to the issue.  Again side stepping for a personal attack from Muttman because he knows im correct and he has no response. He will back flip again just like the dolphin

        • Personal attack? I wasn't even involved here and you called me out. Not the other way around. Chief I don't know you at all but you're an unbelievably negative poster on this site. Easily the most negative. I find it funny but that's about it.
BTW all teams lose players. Well except the Roosters that is.
