The coach and the captain

Yep. Been talked about in other blogs , that's for sure. But.

Life is full of making the big decisions and some of those decisions are personally life changing. And to not make the decision to change very often means that you get more of the same.

There are not many more people out there more interested in Parra than me. I am saying this because I don't want you guys betting pissed.

Timmy is one of the greatest club men this club has known. Without doubt endured the sleepless nights and soul searching that comes to a captain when the team is not performing well...or perhaps not getting the results.

This is not entirely Tim's fault. Parra has not recruited well when it comes to players who can read a opponents game plan and spoil the opposition. That really is one of the things a captain needs to be able to do. No doubt Tim leads by example every week with massive work rates. And the captain needs to be a talker , barking out commands to his team. Tim is doing everything he possibly can to get the results on the board and so is the rest of the team. But it is time

I will feel it is a weakness of BA if he does not change the captain this year. Its time to make the big decision. Take the decision making on the field to a new level or more of the same.

We have a new halfback this year. The results will largely pointed in his direction , especially the losses. We are hoping he has the complete game ,well you would expect that sort of money to buy you someone with the complete game. Saying this I am hoping he has the ability to read the game ,spoil the oppositions plans and know when the opposition is stacked on one side of the field.

So saying that ,what role will Tim being the captain play.

We have bought the players to be a dynamic team. We need a dynamic leader , a tactician and all in one person.

Perhaps its time for Tim to step down as captain?.

I know its been posted before. What will we do? More of the on field leadership or a change?

  • Totally Agree with you.

Tim is a great Club Captain but out on the field we need someone on the park for 80 mins someone who barks orders and someone who will be respected.

I think Fozza might be the man, but I am also open to multiple Captains and would be happy for Choc to be Captain as well as part of his experience and leadership

  • Foran will be the captain.
  • I don't know which way the club will go with this. I think we'll have plenty of leaders next year.
If the choice was mine, I'd go this way.
    On field - Foran.
Why? The on field captain should be one of the spine players. Someone who barks orders at the others or chews them out when needed (refer to Norman miked up).
    Off Field - Mannah
Why? This bloke is a great ambassador for the team. If you've been to a club function you'd know how well he speaks.
    The proviso.
We may not want to throw Foran the captaincy in his first year, at least officially.
I think that they key factor is that we will have a number of blokes in the team next year who are true competitors and will let their voices be known
    I'm not concerned about leadership.
  • Easy choice IMO, Foran gets the gig.  He's a leader who will be on the park for 80mins.

  • Totally Agree Don, and welcome to the site.

  • We now have enough senior players (Choc, Foran, Scott, Gordon, Mannah, Norman) for it not to matter who is (c). For mine, the (c) just means extra work for Foran with the media etc which could be avoided by keeping Mannah as the skip. Besides, when we have the ball, it's the halves and hooker who do the talking. They lead us around. In defence, everyone has to talk for the line to function. The only time the captain talks is after we have scored or conceded, and as I said, there are plenty of senior players who will all contribute. Foran doesn't need the added duties of post game pressers etc. Yes, even if he was JUST the on-field captain, he still has to do that stuff. Mannah handles it all well. Lets give Foran some time and space to fit in and play well before adding more responsibility. If anything, Norman would be a good (c) as he showed against the Dragons. He is a half, so he talks anyway and he has been here for a few seasons. It would not add nearly as much to him as it would Foran who is making a huge change as it is.
    • Foz for captain nuf said

  • Really need to commit to be captain
Can't come in for two years and expect the troops to buy in
  • It all comes down to politics.

Look at the uproar when Sam Tugday was dropped by the Broncos - oops - my bad - no one cares about the Bronx.

Well written and thought out blog don.

Unless Foz was signed with the up front intent of making him C then in his first year I don't think that would work too well for him - which in turn would not be good for the team.

    Same with Gordon.

Wotty Wott comes to mind but his 2015 season wasn't anything to jump up and down about.

SO.............................................. leaves Norman. (I can't believe I actually typed that and left it up)

Someone else mentioned the game where he was mic'd - always talking and directing players - also gave Seff a serve for sloppy play.

Either way your C has to be an 80 minute player imo

  • I think we'll have co captains, Tim and Foz.

I can't see Foz being given sole capacity in his first year.
