The Coach

I think BA has done a great job from start to finish.

We all know about the start and the front end BS he had to deal with.

The finish, sadly results will determine his future this year. But do they really?

His contract was only extended late last year!

The Eels would have to have a 2018 type year for BA to be sacked. If the Eels serve up much of the same as last year, then expect the same results i.e. top 8 finish and early finals exit, and BA keeps his job.

The change needs to come in the coaching ranks, we need to add a forward thinker.

Anthony Seibold?

Was the worst coach in Broncos history, but I'm not convinced there weren't other issues at the club. He lost the playing group because he was too full on in all aspects of the game and his players couldn't keep up. Where we need him is as an attacking coach, he'll have Reed, Brown and Moses straighten up and play what is in front of them, with the key being picking the right moments to run the ball, we saw in the trial the halves were running but not picking their moments and just getting tackled, as they hoped for something to happen.

I think Seibold is the man to show them when to run, when to kick. That is, to see what's in front of you and take advantage of it. Lazy marker equals Reed run. Fullback in the line equals kick behind at any time in the tackle count. Centre is at marker equals run a short side play.

  • I can't see the club sacking Arthur, I'm pretty sure Arthur's contract would still be paid out in full unless there were KPI's that need to be met as part of his contract, the club have said before they don't want to do this.

I think Brisbane may have had off field problems last year but I would still want to see Seibold succeed elsewhere before we touched him, we aren't in a position to take a gamble like that.

I know a lot think we have a premiership squad but I don't, I don't think getting a Hagan type to finish the job would work and those type of coaches usually leave a trail of destruction behind.

Not many coaches elsewhere that really fit the bill so maybe we have to look internally? Gower to me always seemed like a well respected player amongst the group and looked to have some qualities that could make him a good coach.

Could we move Arthur into a role where he runs the club and looks after junior development while someone like Gower is given the opportunity? if not Arthur, it could be someone like a Nathan Brown that overseas everything maybe?

  • Are you seriously saying that Siebold is a better coach than Arthur LMFAO.

    foward thinker 🤔

  • I'm sure Andrew Johns will have our kicking  game sorted and when to run and went to play eyes up footy

    Big No way for me.

  • Mate, I'm not too sure the replies so far have actually read your blog - which I reckon makes alot of sense.

The Seibold experiment at Brissy was a disaster but there's no denying his ability and success as an assistant and he has a good footy brain. He's the sort of bloke that BA could and should be having on his team. I would have been wrapt with a Siebold assistant coach appointment and would feel alot more confident about this year.

Siebold is no imbecile, he just isn't a first grade coach.  He's an almightly right hand man though. He needs someone between him and the players. I have a feeling Barret may be a similar type, as was Steve Price who won a comp as Sharkies assistant. Jason Taylor's another one.

    I like it bro :)

    • Broski Kram, think you know me well enough to know I sometimes troll a bit.

I thought about writing in bold at the end of the blog NOT SAYING SACK BA FOR SEIBOLD, SAYING SEIBOLD WOULD BE A GREAT PICK UP AS ASSISTANT COACH!

But then we may not have gotten quality replies so I left it out. So far we have had calls for Bennett and Bellamy who are both retiring and even better Gower to replace BA, Nathan Brown as Coaching Director. Lmao.

If I may be a Realest for a second, BA is an excellent coach who has gotten us to the top with a salary cap that doesn't apply to certain other teams, just needs an edge through someone like Seibold to get us the premiership we are all dying for.

  • Not sure I'd go with Seibold. We should check the availability of Steve Kearney, Dean Pay, Mary McGregor or Neil Henry first. I mean let's really go top shelf first.

  • The problem with Seibold is that everyone now knows he doesn't handle adversity. I personally think his days as an NRL head coach are done. Say what you want about BA, and there is certainly things you could say, but one thing we do know is that he can handle adversity.
Actually, he'd probably be the ideal HC for the Broncos right now.

    • When you think about it there’s quite a few clubs that would be interested in a package deal (coach and halfback).
