The benefits of signing Thurston

I dont know if this story is another beatup from the DT but if we could sign thurston, this would be enormous for our team on many levels. Let me tell you why

1.He can mentor mortimer & the keating bros if they are still around.
2. Create more space for our centres tahu & Reddy
3. Link up with Hayne to give him more opportunities similar to Matty Bowen.
4. Link up with a benny smith or shackleton on the edge of the ruck like a soward/creagh .
5. Provide an excellent short & long kicking game
6. Next captain after caylo.
7. Another marque player to market along with hayne & tahu

We will be losing alot of experience next year with caylo retiring  & signing thurston might just be what we need

  • I have 1 question! Sure Thurston is the current no 1 halfback in the game, but if he came to Parramatta do you think he would be that outstanding the Eels would win a premiership? Sure our chances would increase even more, but I don't think he is playing his best football these days.
  • sorry slip, whilst i manly agree with your comment, i disagree about the footy he is playing at the moment. he single handedly got the cowboys back into the game against Brisbane in Rd 1, won them the game against Penrith. He is in great form at the moment. Probably the best I have seen from him. But whether that would guarantee us a premiership??
  • Without JT the Cowboys would be getting lapped each week. He and Willie Tonga are the only reason the Cowboys are anywhere near competitive.

Look at how he performs in Origin and feeds off the talents in the QLD team. He would only improve his performance if he were to join the Eels and others around him too.

I'd much rather we sign him and lose guys like KK and Mateo who are prone to errors then retain them.
    • I wouldn't give credit to Thurston for what QLD have achieved. No doubt he has contributed to their success, but Lockyer is the true champion in that team and they also have Inglis, Slater and Cameron Smith.

Can Thurston totally dominant a Grand Final though? Andrew Johns for example was a player the opposition couldn't beat many times (NSW & Newcastle) and had no idea on how to defeat such a team that included Johns. Lockyer is similar to Joey Johns, but Thurston is a distant third and I don't think that's enough to guarantee a premiership.

Sorry, but in saying that he would definitely improve Parra's chances.
  • Pay him whatever he wants and get him down here asap. Our premiership chances would increase tenfold, the guy is a champion halfback.
  • For the amount of coin he is asking we would have to sacrifice a lot of players.

For sure Caylo and Hindy are in their twilight year/s and this will free up some more money. What it doesn't answer is we are already low on back row stocks and these two guys will need replacing. There goes most of that money, unless of course we just build a team with a couple of super stars and pretty much bozos around them. That won't win us a premiership! Just like when Sterlo and Kenny were left in the late 80's and early 90's. They were both still legends but we had nobody of first grade standard to compliment them, thus we were hopeless. I'm pretty sure the media penned the phrase HAPLESS with us in mine. )-:
  • Cant agree with you i think he is playing outstanding
  • To be honest, I dont want to buy my way to a premiership.
  • And what if Thursron comes and doesn't perform? There is no guarantee he will work well with the other players. Who else should they throw huge amounts of money at to 'fix' the team? Give the young guys a chance. I hear it over an over again about how many good players Parra have let go overr the years, so why is everyone so quick to want to dump our young prospects before they've been given a chance?
  • WHAT!!! its been 24yrs i'll take one any way i can besides everyone else buys them usually with our players.
