The Bench

Hi there, my first post so please be gentle

Im not sure if this has been discussed but a lot of people were saying we were missing Furgo and Sivo but really and it's something I've been critical about for a few years is our replacement forwards, in the semis we didn't have Kafusi or Niukore, and i also think the reason we haven't been matching it with the top teams is our bench, most of the bench players in the top trams would start in other teams and a few teams pretty much have 3 props starting the game with a couple of good forwards on the bench, I really believe we need to boost the punch off the bench to be successful, thoughts?

    • Viscous? Are you calling them thick, Sluggy?

      • Don't think so Super, I think he was inferring we can be oily, slippery old busteds.

  • We absolutely need more punch off the bench. We need a player like Asiata who can also bring ball playing skills with him to help fill the void Junior leaves when he's getting a rest.

  • Starting caliber middle forwards want to start, as we've seen with Jack Hetherington. It's hard to keep more than 5 experienced quality middles under the cap. This is where a lack of an established system really hurts us. When you've got a great system like Melbourne do, it raises the standard of guys like Dale Finucane & Christian Welch who would be average players elsewhere. You plug Oregon Kaufusi into Melbourne's system and you'd see a completely different player than what we saw this season.

  • 100% right we start with our 3 best middles and loose punch later for me 1 or 2 of Brown Jr RCG needs to be on the field at all times I'd start Brown of the bench and bring him on at the 25min Mark and leave him on he has that ability to open up a game or shift momentum. Then I'd start one of Marata,Stone, Kafuasi at 13

  • Our bench problems are solved we have Cartwright

    • What if he turns out to be Billy Rogers 2.0?

Best Bench Warmer in the comp.

Someone apart from Al has to be negative about this don't you think?

      • Yeah, Col hopefully this dosen't come back to bite us

  • The days of having stone and taka on the bench must come to an end, nothing against those players but if we are serious about matching the top sides we need a better bench. Niukore is great off the bench and Kaufusi is improving all the time, that gives us two quality bench players but we now need another quality genuine front rower and a good utility to give us options with papali an edge option.

But ok he's gone now and it's upto JR and our R & R to get the quality replacements through the door."
