The back 3

After the first 2 rounds it is evident what the kicking strategy of the better teams are.

Relentlessly targeting (80% +) the weakest link, even if that means giving up metres on offer on clearing kicks to starve the likes of Semi in our case.

Gordon without being spectacular is solid under the high ball, kick returns and hit-ups. Obviously that leaves Gutherson as our weakest link as seen in our last 2 games.

No doubt this kick strategy will again be applied by the Bulldogs.

What concerns me about Gutherson, is aside from being shaky under the highball to date, is his weight. He is skinner than a Sudanese refugee. His kick returns and hit ups are impotent as a result. Against the big Bulldogs pack this week and our only real big man being Junior, our wingers will need to get in and make metres for our smaller pack when they are tiring, as Semi does well each week and Gordon is solid at.

For this reason alone I would have picked a bigger body like Bureta Faraimo who is very good hitting the ball up and on kick returns to replace Ally McBeal.

I'm yet to see any sign that McBeal has any genuine pace either.

I have a bad feeling BA is finally going to dump his love child Kelly only to replace him with McGutho.

  • Haha true bureta sprints at the line too makes heaps of meters on kick returns I dunno why he hasn't played more nrl games
  • Agree fully bert I see us leaking points down Guthos side too.But we must believe in BAs pick, he no doubt thinks the kids gunna be a star. But one more game like the last two I would drop him faster then Campbelltown Friday night special...oh man I miss those girls..
  • Agree 100% Gutherson needs 6 -8 weeks in Wenty.

  • Aurthur needs to make changes for certain games strategically he doesnt. just gives the same guys a go because he promised them a spot in pre season he needs to make the tough decesions
  • I agree Bert. It's quite surprising that Gutho doesn't look more elusive given his slender frame. It was reported during the offseason that he is very quick but his footwork and speed to date has looked pedestrian. Maybe it's just that he is still finding his feet after the knee op.
  • Spread the ball from the back and off goes a galloping Semi.
  • He looks quick and elusive to me. He hasn't seen much space yet mind you. I think gutho looks like a footballer. He also looks like a winner to me. I think he'll come good his second game was better than his first and I expect that trend to continue
