Does BA still suck like so many were saying only a few weeks ago?Parra wins a few more over next few weeks do they resign him?Id imagine the club would want to get a coach sorted for next year sooner rather than later considering the contract situations. So whats your thoughts ?
We'll have a clearer picture by week 13.
There are many (Toovey mainly) experienced coaches in the market. Who knows what shake up there will be until then. I don't any coach that could currently do a better job than BA and this comes from someone who was asking for his head on a platter last year so we could go after Maguire. He's done well at the Tigers also. Their defence yesterday and last week was STELLAR.
I wasnt having a go at ppl who bag BA as i have and stand by that.I dont understand some of his recruitment and retention.More interested on ppls take on what they think should be done if mid season we are on the cusp of the 8 or dare to dream and be higher. My main gripe with BA is the fixation to give a few players spots who arent first graders. At the moment Hoffman is his only selection choice i didnt understand.
I think the choice with Hoffman had mainly to do with having an experienced head next to Sivo as opposed to another green player in Salmon.
The Hoffman selection is in the same principle as the selection of Dave Gower. You need veterans on your roster who know they aren't going to play a lot unless there is a rash of injuries or suspensions. BA knew Jenko was only out for a week, Hoffman, limited as he is, would come in and do a solid job running the left side defence. The previous week, Jenko's marshalling of that left edge was brilliant considering he had rookies on either side of him. Hoffman has similar experience, hence his selection.
Now if Jenko was out for an extended period of time, he might not have gone for Hoffman, he might have gone for Salmon.
Completely agree Brett. With MJ back this week, it does give the option of using Salmon next to him but with Taka doing ok back in the centres no need to change that, to me Salmon introduces another young blood and he performed well off the bench, and provides better utility value than Smith.
Smith is also injured, so it's Salmon or McIlwrick to provide support to Mahoney. Salmon is a very versitile 14 though.
Salmon's energy was welcome and his first touch was the final pass to Brown for a try.
I dont think you really can compare Hoffman to Gower.Gower gives 100% and rarely makes a mistake,he is far from flash but you know what your getting.Hoffman has to many issues as does Smith and French. Not first grade standard.Pritchard gave 100% but his body failed him.I dont know why BA has kept persisting with them
tbh - unless top 4 mid season hard to see him re-signed
at end of the day we have only made the 8 once in 5 years under his tenure (yes I know one year with cap issue doesn't count ).
Also whilst ecstatic we are 2 from 2 I'm not getting excited
Penrith we're dreadful and so were the doggies. I'll start believing in the side if we beat the rorters
