Negatives: It takes something real big for BA to change his team ... this is the bloke who has debuted one player since 2016 after all
We need to start playing marata or we will regret it... i dont mind if we lose a few more close games in the early season so long as we see some fresh new faces trying new things
I have said elsewhere that the only bench player that showed any real worth was Taka, Matagi and Evans not ready for NRL and should be at Wenty, Scott to me seems too old, while he did some good bits on defence he seemed to lack where he was at last season. I also am not convinced that King is an 80 minute player either, and time for a uitlity on the bench for that reason, either Smith or Pritchard to share the 9 spot. That said King was ok in many areas but also seemed to tire towards the end of each half.
No doubt the coach will make them very aware of where they were outplayed and out muscled, the eels bench was simply not up to the power and finese of the panthers main forward pack that were put on the bench to start.
Overall effort will improve with better match fitness and wouldn't to expect see us play as flat as we did in the 2nd half again.
Penrith will be hard to beat at home, so I would have been more upset losing to side like tigers, raiders or knights who I expect struggle as year goes on.
French looks lot stronger this year however seemed hesitant at times so expect him improve as season goes on and sees open space.
Penrith had a bunch of kids running at old blokes.
BA has been told - time and time again that we need to promote the kids in this club but he sticks with old blokes. He has also been told that we need some size.
Thats OK. He is the coach and its his decisions.
I think hes a great coach but his forwards REALLY let him down today. Goodness knows what the cowboys with their arsenal of giants will do to us.
I agree FH, Stone again was great for Wenty and Mahoney is just slaying it.
Both should be in the side by seasons end, but won't because BA doesn't like giving young blokes a run..
Marata will get pinched and go to the Sharks while we have old man Beau plodding around on bare tires.
BA has done a lot of great things at this club but bringing the youth through has not been one of them. Twal being lost was a crying shame when our middle forwards are a weakness.
Watched the game with Slugg and he asked if I could post his thoughts as he can't get an internet connection at Westmead Rehab. He agrees with you FH. he said he has been saying all off season that we haven't bought any players who would improve our forward roster and that we have not improved 1%.
If James makes one run at Scott and the company that's it. ...
Penrith did get a huge leg up when they needed it most, some the calls against us were purely mystifying.
