The 2024 Neville Glover Award

Who will win the 2024 Neville Glover Award named after the former Parramatta and Penrith winger.  Glover made 121 first grade appearances for Parramatta scoring 54 tries. He also represented Australia and New South Wales. This award has been part of my page/channel since 2016. I know a few people on here every year get a bit upset thinking I am personally attacking him but it's all just a bit of fun. If you are interested the link for the video is down below.

    • See the thing is, I could call it the Anthony Mundine award because he was also involved in a bombed try during a grand final but then I would probably be called a racist, so there you go. I also have the Paul Carige Award but strangely enough nobody has a problem with that or sinking the boot into him.

      • Where are your Paul Carriage award for the 2024 final series Steel?

        • To be honest, I couldn't find a winner this year. There was nobody I felt had such a bad game in the finals that they could be nominated. I was close to giving the award to Cameron Munster, but that's only if he would have been charged and suspended for biting. In the second half of that game he went quiet and if he would have been sin binned or suspended for biting, that would have been enough for me.

  • I more than don't like it. You are an attention seeking troll bad mouthing one of our legend players. How about your Neville Glover award goes to the player who scored a try the first time he touched the ball representing his country? That would be a fitting Neville Glover award, just as Neville did. The only player I ever saw who broke out of a Ron Coote cover tackle then run 30 metres to score beating the fullback on the way. You are probably too stupid to understand this but if you actually watch the 1976 Grand Final with any sort of footy IQ, you would understand that if John Moran (RIP) goes himself instead of passing a terrible pass, Moran scores himself. I doubt you are old enough to understand that referee Cook penalised John Kolc repeatedly for 2nd row scrum feeds, all within goal kicking distance for Eadie. This was the reason the differential penalty was brought in for scrum infringements. It is not "just a bit of fun" for all of us who lined up for 2 days with sleeping bags outside Phillip Street RL Headquarters to get GF tickets before the days of Ticketek. I don't expect you to understand and please do not respond as I am trying desperately hard not to launch into an expletive riddled reply

    • Love your passion PJ and, like you said, you would  have had to be there to understand where your passion started.  I was there too, maybe not alongside you but there somewhere when Cook kept blowing that dam whistle against Parra with the great Johnny Kolc and Neville Glover playing their hearts out for a win

      • We were by far the better team on the day and scored more tries than Manly. Even nearly scored at the death with the flying wedge. Which brings me to.... when a player is being tackled and his own team mates come in and push him forward to stop him being pushed backwards...is that not a flying wedge? Hilditch's head was over the line....it was that close. Did you go to Parra for the street parade on the Thursday night before the game? Estimates were up to a million people 20 deep lining Church Street and shoulder to shoulder in Westfield.

          1. No didn't go...wish I had of  though.Ive been to all of Parra's GF . That was the scariest one  trying to get in.We nearly got crushed  waiting for the gates to open. People lined up waiting to get in to get a good position on the Hill. The crowd at the rear were getting anxious waiting so they started pushing forward and they're were lots of children lining up with their parents and were getting crushed. Luckily they opened the Big gates in time otherwise their would have been casualties crushed trying to get in. I'll never forget that.
        • I was there on the hill when jimmy porter scored the first try, I took my dad and I honestly thought he was going to have a heart attack when Porter scored.

Neville Glover was one of my favourite players and I can assure you he has gotten over the ridicule he endured for many years. He dines out on it now!

Steely you need to remember that Glover was no "gumby" player he was the real deal.

Finally one for you "Mark" when Kenny went down the blindside to score in 81 the winning try, my Dad was at our house in Brisbane and jumped up off the lounge as Kenny skipped way, he hit the ceiling and knocked himself out for about 20 seconds, he woke up, saw me and said "david" tell me I wasn't dreaming......no Dad it's for real!!! Ding Dong LOL

    • I think I have this conversation every year on this page when I post this award. Some people get really offended but then when I post the Paul Carige Award, everyone finds that funny. I was 11 when that preliminary final occurred and it caused a lot of emotional/mental trauma which I still haven't fully gotten over. I'm definitely not a troll, I've been on here six year and never started any shite with anyone. I have seen the replays of the bombed try, but only from one angle as it's the only video clip I have ever seen or could find. Opinion is divided online, some people blame Moran, some people blame Glover. I will have you know that Neville himself knows of this award and the videos I do, he finds it funny actually, according to his family member who tagged him in it.

  • Loved watching nifty play, he was a stand up from your seat player when he got a bit of room to move. You are right Tragic, Moran scores if he goes himself. I think you were a bit harsh on SBWY, calling him a troll, he does produce some good content  on this site, and you have to remember, if you asked any punter on the street what they remember most about Glover, I guarantee most won't acknowledge his talent but, that bombed try.

But a big reason he's making this impact is because a lot of starch has gone out of the game so his energy and enthusiasm comes to the fore…"

"Yea I like Samrani as a 17 rather than a starting backrower. Tuilagi will probably be selected this week with Guymer back on the bench or cup. Latu needs a couple more games in Cup before being a chance of NRL selection I would think."
