The 1 Eyed Eel podcast

As HoE kicked off a little earlier this month, we are looking at ways to improve the content of the site.

We have an amazing group of members here who write outstanding blogs and I firmly believe in the independence of our site as a place where Eels fans can speak their mind.

As I and HoE have mentioned alongside other members such as Muttman, the club does keep an eye on the site, and I have ongoing discussions with club exec - mostly in a feedback capacity.

A key theme that came out of HoE's blog is an interest in a 1 Eyed Eel podcast. I have been playing around with this idea for a while.

So I'm going to turn it over to the members here to help guide this process.

What do you want in a podcast? Do you have a preferred name?

The Reel Deal has been suggested as one name.

I see this as a great time to kick this off, mainly due to the club's willingness to improve its engagement with the fan base which is a directive coming from the top down and is being embraced by Jason Ryles.

Personally, I see a mix of current/former player and admin interviews, some analysis and interviews with those involved in elite sport (HoE has provided an example of Dr Jauncey who has been a long time colleague and consultant of Wayne Bennett).

So, over to you guys.

Brian Smith, Hayden Knowles, Steve Ella, Steven Edge or Sterlo Tawera Nikau has a inpisring story to tell

    The Keeping it REEL Podcast!

    • Mick, that's quite genius. "Keeping it Reel". Reely catchy.

Good shout on Hayden Knowles. His podcasts are interesting. James Graham's Bye Round is good too. He just had Matt Cameron on for over an hour for a great interview (recommended listening) as did Knowles a while back. Lots of great material out there.

Wouldn't mind former, current, and future coaches and assistants either if they had some time and it was possible. Brian McDermott (my man crush)!

It could be embarrassing entertainment at first. Something we never live down. As long as we don't take ourselves too seriously, have some fun and respect our interviewees and their boundaries.

We probably need to start small and humbly - baby steps - work out what ours is about.

      • Cheers HOE, the site can grow with more content

        • Or The 1 Eyed Eel FEELESS podcast a play on the word fearless

    • Keeping it rEEL

      • Suits the personality of the site Tank

      • laughing

  • All sounds great.

Maybe get the membership team on as well to discuss ideas around what merch we're really interested in receiving.

Junior/pathway guys would be really good as well.

  • Sounds like a great idea. I agree, need to start small, year in review stuff maybe. Then lean on the club, if they are serious about improving fan engagement you should be able to get access to players/staff etc. Club could also assist in contacting old boys too.

"Some have said the Eels lack size in the pack so it is worth noting that the class of "big bopper" is basically 187cm+ AND 110kg and Tuivati, T Brown and Maetele all count as big boppers.
Learning how to use them is another matter, but a half to a…"
