Thanking our new moderators

Hi guys, just to let you know Mary and Daneel have both agreed to help out on the site as moderators. Basically they now have the ability to delete posts, photos and videos as the way the site has grown of late, it's become a bit much for me to handle. So thank you to both of them for agreeing to help out. And so while we're on the topic, just another reminder on what is deemed appropriate (and I'll get these up permanently on a section of the site). 1. Do not abuse, threaten or harass other 1Eyed Eel members, regardless of whether they agree or disagree with you 2. Limit swearing. Before you use any language that might be deemed offensive, keep in mind we do have some younger Eels fans on the site, and ask yourself is it really needed. 3. Never sexually harass any 1Eyed Eel members. Every female member of the site should feel like this is a safe, non-threatening environment 4. If you're going to criticise the players, club, officials, coach then it must be argued in a rational, reasonable fashion. Simply saying 'such and such' is a $#%# is not on. 5. No thoughtless trolling from non-Eels fans. Again, if you're going to come onto this site and start bagging our club, it better be extremely well thought out and reasonable debate. And equally, I remind you that the quickest way to get rid of something you don't want to read is simply not to reply and watch it quickly slip away in the archives. 6. Videos, pictures and avatars should not be offerensive; ie depicting nudity, sexual acts, etc.

  • Phil, if you need any more help on the moderation front I'll put my hand up.
    • Thanks mate. You're in. I think 3 is the ideal number.
  • Great work Phil.

The sites 'Code of Practice" is exactly what was required.

I also have three young'ish kids that come on & read posts. At times I have been embarassed about the content of some of the posts and not all that happy for my kids to be reading this. I certainly don't want my kids to be thinking that this is how people express themselves on fan sites & on the web in general & most certainly do not want my kids expressing themselves in any other way other then a polite way. Some of these posts were not a good example of grown ups acting responsible. But in saying that it was extremely isolated where this behaviour occurred & where it did occur, most people jumped on it pretty quickly, so I was always confident that it was the exception as opposed to the norm. (Yes I know this is a growns up world, but we are fans with a common cause & there is no need to trash talk)

I have been to other sites & switched off as a result of the trash talk. I am really pleased that this site is a lot more mature where we all have the one cause in supporting our great great team.

It's great to see that you now have some support. Daneel & Mary are outstanding selections.

Good luck guys in keeping the sites 'Code of Practice' ethical and within the high standards that our team also represents on & off the field.

Lets make this site the site that every other fan page aspires to be. (Lets just hope they don't infiltrate - If they do ignore)

    2010 members for 2010.

    Regards

  • :-) It pleases me so much that you have asked me to do this 1Eyed! I will do my best to make sure that this is a place where people of all ages can come and have a bit of a chat about all things Parramatta.
  • Excellent news, too bad we don't have an auto-filter for some serial pests!
  • Hi Phil, Great news Mary & Deneel would be my first pick as well.

One more thing Phil, I'd just like to say thanks for the new site this year. I'm one of those long lists of fans that had tried to join for years and when the new site started I was on like a light. It's been a great help for me this year, as 2009 has not been the best (personally that is) on record so it’s been great to get away from it all. Cheers I must buy you a beer sometime.
  • This is actually a good idea. IMO, this site will continue to grow.
  • Yeah Phil, congrats on the growth of the site and the introduction of protocols that work best in blogging. Thanks in advance to those folks who are going to moderate
  • yeh phil i was guilty but will moderate from now on , im such an eels fan and want to help it grow ,

ps get the eye patch thing happening in 2010
  • I think the exitement, frustration and all this season brought the expletives out of the 'best' of us.. as well as getting on it whilst watching the footy.. but yup.. for the kids sake we should tone it down a bit. or at least have an "AO" Lounge lol
