Telegraph chief accuses others of rorting the cap

Phil Rothfield just said on ABC Radio. He was asked if other successful clubs were cheating the system.

"I'm aware that in the off-season, a very, very big name player was paid $50,000 cash (off the books) by a club sponsor to sign."

Jarryd Hayne was the biggest name player to resign over the off-season, by far the biggest.

Is Rothfield accusing us of cheating? He does fancy himself as being aware of everything that happens in the club.

He says he can't report on it because he hasn't got the document and would be sued for defamation.

  • I can't think of who else he could be referring to. He seemed to be hinting the player only signed because he was getting $50,000 extra off the books.
    • He needs to be careful. If he had any proof of this it would be all over the back pages. In his blog he hinted souths were dodgy but then saying he had no proof of course. He also said the sharks have (past tense) been doing it under zappia who of course came from the Eels.
    • Maybe Dave Taylor or Burgess??
  • What about soward? Being a sharks fan rothfield might be throwing some mud at his arch rivals. I think it's weak journalism.
    • You're right it is weak journalism, its almost fox news type shit. His just trying to sell papers.
If he was any good and was in the know, he wouldn't be coming last in the tele's tipping comp or being out argued by Webster when they do there back n forth thing.
P.S. BIGFOOT EXISTS, but I haven't got any proof.
  • Hayne is getting third party payments but they are all legit, I know one of the guys paying the extra dosh.
  • Not only are they legit but the NRL auditing team has been through them.
  • Cool. It just made me wonder who he was referring to.

    I
  • He probably was referring to Hayne mate - but then he bases all of his hack journalism on gossip and innuendo.
  • Rothfield talks shit every single day. Why would today be any different?
