Tele targets our recruitment again

So the Tele has again had a go at our recruitment...

And here's the battle of the two teams..

http://resources.news.com.au/files/2011/06/02/1226068/261180-eel-exiles.pdf

Personally, I'd take our current team anyway. The 'Exiles' would struggle for go-forwards and while they clearly out-match in the centres, I'd still take Jarryd over both Tonga and Lyons combined.

And it's also worth noting that our current team has players like Poore and Reddy missing, so its not really a realistic comparison of our "squad" anyway.

Based on these players, in my view, we've made it about three or four poor recruitment decisions with our juniors.

Indeed, if you want to bag our recruitment, it's not about the players we've let go, it's about the players we've haven't brought into the club to fill holes in our roster. Like not giving our up-and-coming young playmakers, an experienced partner that would have made for better combinations and given them a greater chance of succeeding.

I've  been pretty vocal about disagreeing with a number of our recruitment decisions, but this article just shitted me.

And how about we compare the "exiles" with next year's side?

  • Must be a slow news day at the daily terror graph.
  • Its a ridiculous article,we obviously have a huge catchment area>How many players have gone and come through the juniors ,most sadly not to make it anywhere.Would be interesting to do the same with Panthers if you go all the way back to school level.I know it sells papers ,but give it a rest.
  • we can produce more quality footballers than their paper can produce talented journo's.
  • I honestly don't think any other team gets the amount of crap that Parra do, and we get so little positive press to balance it out.

That said, I think every Parra fan can agree that our retention is very, very poor.  I'm looking forward to the increase in squad size with the new TV deal, as I think it will allow us to better take advantage of our ability to find and develop youngsters.  Hopefully it'll allow us to retain more fringe youngsters until they start to show their true colours.

  • It is a well known fact that if you produce a shite load of juniors, there'll be competition for positions and they'll inevitably be some that go elsewhere. Does anybody bag the Broncos for letting the likes of Folau, Inglis or Cam Smith slip through their fingers and wind up at Melbourne??
  • No one bags the Broncos mate because they still win without those players.
  • seriously, how can you blame anyone for attacking our recruitment and retention - it has been absolutely horrfic for a while now!!! I think we deserve every bit of criticism we get for this - look where we are on the table for the last 2 seasons!! I have no issues with this being highlighted at all - it realistically shows how we have got it all wrong.

hoefully though it ends this year and we will retain/ recruit who we actually should be - lets see

  • exactly eels age me - they let go who they dont want and they keep who they do want and they are always competitive
  • mate theres many exiles they forgot. James Maloney, J.Yow-yeh was a junior apparently, ryan hinchcliffe, kirk reydondson, jason cayless, pj marsh, richard fa'ooso, david williams, tim smith, jason baiteri, tim robinson, jamie buhrer, rodney ma'oofo, taulima tautai etc.
  • yep Parra deserve this bad press. Look at Raiders or Broncos, they tie up there promising juniors long term. we shoudln't have put ourselves in a situation where we were forced to shell out big bucks for sandow when we had hodko k.keating, maloney and albert kelly in our system just 2 short years ago. Im glad the article was written as maybe Parra management will wake up to themselves and re-sign the likes of Mitchell and Humble long term.

Letting go of the likes of gallen, buhrer, david williams, hinchcliffe, kk, kelly, hodko, micheal hodgson, willie tonga etc. was extremely short-sighted.
