Team Review - Outside Back Defence? & BA Grow some Balls?

Gutho - tried hard but wasnt his night in attack today. His passing game was slightly off, giving the ball behind his players at times. Every pass from Ribbits were perfect. Grade C.

Sivo - OVERRATED. OVERRATED. Every try he scores is served up on a platter for him by Jenko or Gutho. You could Bennet at his old age and he will score the same tries as Sivo. His defensive reads are so bad. All the media and crowd chanting makes Sivo think he is better than what he actually is. Jenko and Dylan Brown are good defenders and are the old reason Sivo looks like a medicore defender when in reality he is an absolute rubbish defender. Grade E.

Jenko - Had an alright game. With a stupid player on his outside, no wonder Jenko defence looked bad, when its just dum ass Sivo. Grade C.

Blake - I dont understand how Gus invested so much in Blake. He cannot defend to save his life. He arm grabs no stop. Dylan Brown who was injured badly could tackle Graham on a linebreak while a fully fit Blake cannot do shit. Honestly put Bennet in the centre. Bennet will be more useful honestly. While Bennet may be equally poor at tackling like Blake given his age, Bennet will actually read attackive players so much better than him. Blake also has no offloading or passing ability to set up Fergo. Grade E.

Fergo - His time is passed. He still provides great go foward from the back but his defense is almost as bad as Blake. Blake, Sivo and Fergo are both equally bad at reading opponents attackive players and looks so bad in defence. Fergo also misses a few tackles a game despite the fact he only needs to make around 6 tackles a game. I dont know whether its him having zero tries this season or his cockiness and ego, but he tries to score tries thats impossible. When he tried taking on Murray, I dont know whether he though Murray was a 5 year old kid that he could run over or that the sidelines was further away. Parra need to make use of his aerial ability.  Grade E.

D Brown - My favourite player in our team. Hope he lives up to his potential. Gutho and Brown are the only 2 people who have provided attack to us of late with Moses being the overated halfback he is. His defence is solid as always and he chased down Graham despite being hobbled by his ankle. Grade B.

Moses- Overated halfback. Cannot control a team to save his life. When things are not going his way he is horrendus. Yes we have won tight games this year. But this was not due to the fact that Moses controlled the game, just that our foward pack is so good. Moses short kicking game is horrendus and he does not use Fergo's aerial ability and kick the ball on the goal line rather than on the 10m line where Fergo has to hit it back. His defence has improve, but your job as a half back is provide attack and control your team which he has not done at all of recent, evidently shown by our lack of points. Grade D.

Paulo & RCG - both where not at the best tonight. But I guess thats fine considering they have carried us the hole year along with Gutho and N Brown. Grade C.

Mahooney & Stone - both had alright defensive and attacking game. Mahooney long pass from dummy half is becoming very repititive which makes it easy now for defensees to read. Need to add something new from dummy half or reuse some of his skills that he hasnt used recently such as his kicking and short pass to a foward who offloads it to him and than eels play eyes up footy from it. I really like Stone in defence. But when your team is doing shit, hard to look good. Grade C and B respetively.

Matto - tried well in attack. Unfortunely in defence, he has to make 4 players because Fergo and Blake are horrendus and Moses misses the odd tackle still. Moved intot he halves latter on. I really think that he has lost all his ability to play in their halves from his juniour days. Grade B.

Lane - Needs a weeks rest and regain a better attitutde. Needs to run the ball more. However, I do believe some of us are a bit harsh on him. Grade D.

N Brown - the effort this bloke has is incredible. He is always there in scramble defence and always running his heart on his sleeve. Unfortunately he was one of the couple of players who actually turned up tonight. Grade B.

Kafusi & Evans & Davey - ran with good purpose but the game was pretty much over by the time all of them came onto the field. Evans provided some good offloading ability but some times I believe when running the ball his first thought is too offload the ball rather than gaining meters. All Grade C.

Brad Arthur

So apparently we spend a month only defending at training and the one week we don't we get 38-0 points put on us. We spend this week focusing on our attack and we can't even score a point. I have never questioned BA before, but WTF is this crap. He also needs to grow a pair of balls because throughout his time at para he rarely drops players. It's time for him to yield the fucking axe and drop our Fergo, Blake and Sivo. We cannot put this performance down to complancey because personally, our outside backs leaked so many points. Now with Dylan Brown injured who is such a solid defender watch our edge get torn apart even more. I first didnt mind our attack being rubbish because defence wins compeitions but jeez if you conceede 38 points after constantly defending at training, something is not adding up. Its embarrassing. I thought our attack would come because according to him they were easy fixes, but apparently not cause we didnt look very dangerous in attack other than the time we decided to run at our own players. Howeverm we did create a couple chance but our passing game was so off tonight. We had no execution with the last pass going behind players whilst if you say the Rabbits, every pass was perfect. I have no idea what is going on at training because they need to learn to fucking play. Our effort was good but thats about it.

In regards to dropping our outside backs I am worried. George Jennings is not any better at defending and apparently Dunster is still not NRL standards. So we have no really promising outside backs coming through our good defensive outside backs(Taka is bad at defence) to turn to when we need to drop Fergo, Blake and Sivo. So honestly I think we should actually consider trying things around and swapping Blake and Fergo. With centre fergo and blake wing. Like surely that side defence can't get any worse, so experimenting may be the asnwer. Even if this helps their defensive reads both need to learn to fucking tackle. Sivo just needs more energy and more time to learn how to defend to be honest.

  • Imagine we didn't have gutho in our side lol, it's a scary thought & one that makes me think we wouldn't make the 8 without him. He's entitled to have an off day & yes still looked better than most out there. From what I've seen in the last 4/5 weeks is that this team is over coached, they are hell bent on just the one out stuff without making a mistake that when they lose that early arm wrestle and concede a try or 2 , that they have no clue what' else to do after that. No plan B. He just wants them to stick to the arm wrestle & even said as much tonight in the presser, It's evident to me that BA needs a few opinions on what to do when our original game plan isnt working or we are just gonna be the same team for the next decade. A team who grinds and wins enough games to make the 8. Once the whips get cracking towards the end of the year, most teams know exactly what to do to beat us or at least get close enough. Even the shit sides have been making us work for the 2. WE NEED SOMETHING new in 2021, The 'coach' will never win us a Comp the way we're playing .

  • We have been carried by in-form middle forwards (RCG, Paulo, N Brown and Niukore) coupled with a high energy fullback with a winning attitude. Sadly that's not enough anymore and teams with good coaches and players that listen during video sessions will pick us apart. Souths set a foundation now, we are in trouble. Make no mistake about it, warriors are coming for us.

  • 1. What we gained in our RCG signing, we more than lost in our Waqa signing. Time to swap with Taka (cant believe I just said that)

    2. Joey has broken our spine. They are actually playing worse. Moses is just a kicker now in attack

    3. If Kidwell is our D coach then he needs to go. They cant count numbers in defense and Sivo & Jenko are both defending at cetre.

    4. Forwards last night looked tired. Theyve been carrying this team all year and its starting to show.

    5. Get our backline some new boots with longer studs. The last few night games at Bankwest Ive never seen so many Eels players slipping over.

    6. Yes, we'll probably beat the Warriors next week and some will think we're back, but that will be fools gold.

    7. We are a 5-8 team and wont be any higher unless we can get some mental toughness. The heads dropped quickly last night, the talking behind the posts wasnt there and everyone had given up by half time.

    Thats my assessment anyway.

    • Very hard to argue against that

        • What excuse for the player's lack of intensity did the Third rate U12s Bush Coach give this week?

"We have worked on our defence for the past 5 weeks" The results speak for themselves.

Good to see you Rider - nice summary.

          • Hi Col

Still propped up in the back corner sharing your pearls of wisdom I see.

    • You lot must watch a different game to me. Moses has never liked being tackled that's a fact.  He will never get caught with ball in hand so kicks mostly or passes. You all know I've never been a fan of his. When he made the break in Sharks game and got ran down alot said his calf problem.  I put it down to soggy field and he stopped and bent down because he was about to get tackled. He is very fast if there is a gap there but that doesn't happen in smart teams. The team was bamboozled over park as well. DB is Eels best attack. They had Gutho figured out. Very smart coaching from the old guy.  I've wondered if Moses and Brooks should reunite (Tigers wound no want Moses) both Dally M winners both the same with career..Brooks has talent to go better but Tigers have given him 5 years and hasn't bloomed.yet.  Shout out to Adam Reynolds back to careerr best I was happy for him. So many good halves at the moment.

Geiff Toovey come on down.  Played with plenty of ticker and could teach a few.

      • I must be, because no half likes being tackled, most will only run if a half gap is there and passing and kicking are their tools of trade.

Since coming back from injury his passing has gotten worse, hes having trouble staying on his feet, and with Joeys mentoring his game management is worse along with his involvement.

      • Absolutely true PK!

Moses game management has not changed for years- always has had zero composure under pressure and his kick game and poor choices has not improved - outside a few games after covid break and thought great he has limproved his composure fantastic. His skills and defence are not his problem  his composure is what let's him down.

sick to death of the excuses by his apologists in the past - like our forwards have no go forward, he injured his pec calf or some other body part ( that doesn't affect decision) norms fault Moses doesn't have control of the team, someone else's fault or the classic one was Dylan was out (a ten game rookie)  and apparently Moses couldn't function without him :)

omce he started petulantly yelling and blaming others on field a few weeks back when his own game less than perfect I knew we have some problems with him and it's time for BA to give him another one of his reality check talks... which apparently Moses says helped him to pull his head in previously.

he is talented but so was sandier and many others we need him to be clearyesk and composed so that he can make good descisions and execute his talents but not sure if composure can be taught :(
