Tapine heads to Canberra on monster offer

I wonder how much Junior was offered or has supposedly signed for?.... where there's smoke.....

Canberra has signed boom Newcastle backrower Joseph Tapine for the next three seasons on a deal worth close to $1.5 million.

Tapine informed his Knights teammates of his impending move at training on Thursday morning with the club unable to get near Canberra’s monster offer for the 21 year old.

  • Stories circulating that Junior has been offered 800k..... Ridiculous if true.
    • Gee if that's even close I'm glad we didn't get into a bidding war.

Anything over $450 (and that is high end) is too much for Junior.

  • So does this mean that they have given up on Junior?

Would you offer that sort of money to twp young props?

    • Tapine is a second-rower/centre. Very odd purchase as their second-row is pretty good with Soliola, Whitehead, Papalii (may move to the middle permanently) and then have 2 young second-rowers in Barnett, and Mago. Then at centre they have Waqa, Croker, Leilua, Wighton (if Rapana goes to fullback). So they're pretty stocked in those positions.

  • hopefully this means means they have missed out on Junior and we will keep in on the books for 2017 + if he has signed for 800k a season good on him for taking they money whist it is there, no way i would offer him that

  • I wonder how close they are to the cap, Joseph is now on 500k, with Jack wightion, Austin, Papali, Vaughn, Fensum, sizer, Croker...... the ol green machine wouldnt have to much left i would imagine for junior, i really hope this means we can hold on to junior

    • I know for a fact Frank Paul is on 450k this season.

  • Look I don't know what they get in Canberra but I imagine the imported players are paid more....I wouldn't imagine they have cap issues looking at their team. No doubt Junior will be offered overs..it will pay for the heating and some of the warm food in winter....the soup nazi in ACT will struggle to accommodate the lad.

  • I wonder if he'll dust off the ol' overhead projector this year?

  • He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!
