Sydney based teams give up home semi's.

At the CEO's conference today the Sydney based teams have agreed to give up home semi's in favour of using bigger stadiums. The trade-off is supposedly that you know in advance where your team is playing. Doesn't seem fair to me.

  • Makes sense if its 2 Sydney teams playing each other otherwise keep it at regional grounds.
  • yep Eels47........GREEDY FOOLS, or more appropriately, FOOLS GOLD, just look at the Tigers fiasco this year having to play a "home" semi at SFS against the Roosters.....all in the name of a quick CASH GRAB

I say BRING ALL semi's back to the SCG......the HOME of Rugby League.....or stick with the current system of home field advantage........I bet the Tigers wished they had played the Roosters at Leichhardt infront of 14,000 passionate fans instead of a "Home" game against the Roosters at SFS and when they needed their crowd in the final minutes to help lift their side into the Grand Final.....it was the Roosters that had the CROWD or home field support ????

Why should Sydney teams get penalised when NCastle, Brisbane, Gold Coast Nth Qld, Melb , Raiders, & Warriors & get a competitive edge .....and in case anybody is counting that's 7 out of 16.........about HALF of the comp gets an advantage over Sydney teams

What a load of .................. (fill in the blank !!)

  • I like the idea of home semis but for teams like parra this is not going to happen. We have too many supporters especially when we make the finals. For example if we had a home semi against the titans in 09 then 10,000 fans would have been locked out. These fans were all parra too. If the crowds are there for a close to full anz of a full sfs then so be it. The game deserves to grow and reach it's potential.
  • Here is an idea, have NO home teams at Homebush and play ALL finals matched there. That way no one gets an advantage, especially that scum from Melbourne.
  • About time! Seeing finals football played at Kogarah Jubilee or Leichhardt Oval is embarrassing and many supporters miss out.
  • IS THAT SO THE STORM CAN STILL WIN GAMES ?
  • Probably! I hope they have asked for a lot in return. It seems it is always the Sydney teams that are making sacrifices for the good of the game. Sydney teams are already at a disadvantage to the other teams. We are all fighting in the same market for sponsorship money, we are also competing for junior talent and a fanbase, free to air TV games, more to do in Sydney as well, so we are also competing for peoples time. The interstate and regional teams don't have these issues. So while it is good for the extra fans these grounds will accommodate, I hope there is something in return.
