Match review should be immediate

If a player does something illegal such as a dangerous tackle or high shot, it does not make sense that they are suspended for the next game/s. The team that they disadvantaged is the team they are currently playing. Especially if the targeted player goes off injured. Why can't the bunker rule immediately on these cases and the infringing player be given a sin bin or suspended from the current game. The offending team could be given 1 minute to accept the immediate penalty or face a lengthier penalty if challenged. There are many players charged by the match review committee for infringements that disadvantaged their opposition but received no or minimal punishment during the game. The team that benefits from the penalty should be the team disadvantaged by the infringement not the team the offending team plays in future games.

  • Wile i see your point and think for some incidents the bin should be used, and not just for punching.

I find it hard to believe that a tripping incident can see the player only fined; tripping years ago received a harsh penalty and so it should, yet we see so many 'soft change' to the judiciary. The game seems to change every year when we have the media, coaches complain and changes are made each season. I can recall Gould calling for golden point, and now that we have it the period of time sees little infringements given as refs seem too scared to blow their whistle. Canberra and Nth qld is a case in point; whereby players offside and nothing done. Games should end after 80 unless finals.

    • DON'T GET ME STARTED ON GOLDEN POINT MITCHY !

    • I get your argument against golden point but never read or could work out the argument for it. Why was golden point introduced?
An extra twenty minutes would make more sense than golden point. But I don't understand the need to not give two evenly matched teams one point each
  • High shots particularly should incur 10 in the bin followed by suspension.

    Spear tackles the same.

Defining an accidental high shot would then come into the argument - but hey - it is the players responsibility to insure he tackles correctly - BUT - how many tackles do we see where the player hits around shoulder high and arm slips up to make contact with head. This one could be a grey area.

    • Either way, if it is going to get a suspension then why not make the decision in the bunker and issue the suspension for the current game - with option to challenge and postpone punishment but risk bigger penalty if the challenge fails.
  • SORRY mate; i am waiting on phone and had to include that in my RANT. Imo it is a lottery unless the game is officiated consistently.

  • Yes a draw is fine IMO; 80 mins for both teams to win

  • I agree with what you are saying Wilie but only for minor indiscretions. A review or challenge system is a great idea but the referee has in his arsenal the ability to send players off already for dangerous tackles or high shots! The question is more why isn't this implemented anymore? It's ridiculous that a player can be smashed out of the game and then a review panel two days later cites a player for their indiscretions. How does that assist the team that has been penalised on the day with their better players injured etc.
I think that players need to be sent off for dangerous tackles and or head high tackles this will penalise that team immediately with the player being given a manadatory X number of weeks no questions asked. This will make a player think twice before partaking in a dangerous tackle. The coach/captain can challenge the on field ruling there and then for a send off. The bunker rules on the send off and acts as the judiciary there and then! If found guilty by the bunker the player remains off with a mandatory X number of games on the sidelines after that. If not guilty by the bunker, No time on the sidelines but remains off for that game.
As you can tell I have thought of this on the run!!! Hahaha. But it is something akin to what you are saying. Something has to be done to stamp this out of the game.
    • The problem is Nut - the refs may have the option to bin players but THEY DON'T.

Wugby and soccer have yellow card - red card - could be some merit in this

Basketball is 3 fouls and you are on the bench - or something like that.

    • True Sir UniCol. Something has to be done including the antiquated thoughts of the hierarchy!
