It would be a very interesting statistic to find out how many games the Melbourne Storm have won by the referee giving them last minute/s penalty goal. They would have to be the most luckiest club in the NRL. There victory last night against the Dragons was again decided by a penalty goal within the last 5 minutes. The Storm are either very lucky or they get away with more than any other team in the NRL. They are now 8 points clear at the top of the NRL ladder and look certain for the minor premiership. Considering they had 6 regular 1st graders out due to Origin duties, I guess they needed a helping hand for victory.

Monto Eel: I hope, and I take it, you are being sarcastic in your last sentence? It is outrageous the help the Storm is getting and has been getting to win those close games. St George had many players missing last night as well as the Storm but still got all the bodgy calls go against them. Next Saturday the Storm play Cronulla in Melbourne for Smith`s 400 game. Watch for the overlarge banner with Smiths name and 400 game achievement displayed with loud background music while Smith walks out by himself with children in tow. All this to ensure that the referees are reminded which way the result should go. Cronulla has no chance of winning this game. If I was in control of the Sharks I would concede the game beforehand and not travel to Melbourne. The Storm will have their incestuous celebration all to themselves! Watch also for the leagues " leading" referee to be appointed for this match. It has all been done before.
Just a great player, maybe the best ever seen.
Best ever but a lot fans dislike him - why?
I think you'll find the way he carried on whilst Alex McKinnon was getting treatment after that horrific tackle shows that he is a right royal pr*ck.
I think last night showed why people hate him, in the second half, he was holding a Dragons player down by the face/head long after the ref called held. If that happened against him or a storm player he would be screaming bloody murder. I think that while he is very good, very fit and healty (peptides???), and truely an incredible student of the game he has this attitude of the rules applying to lesser players and teams, and he is not subject to them.
I noticed that too. Most players would have been penalised for holding the player down. It was clear that Smith was doing this to get his defence set. Why do some players continually get away with this but most players don't?
And the Prick was looking at the ref as he did so. Just daring him to penalise him. Smug C*&T
I would say good player not great and definitely not the best player I've seen. His playing era is vastly different than previous era's. He would have to be one of the grubbiest players I've seen in the the past decade.
The best player the game has seen since Andrew Johns. No one controls a game better.
I would say no one manipulates the referees better.
That’s a simplistic view. His ability to direct his team around the park, control the tempo, count the numbers, play the angles, none of that has anything to do with his relationship with the refs.
