Storm let Mortimer get away

Daniel Mortimer was let go from the Storm's junior recruitment program, with a combination of "logistics" and the fact that he was so small, resulting in Mortimer falling through Melbourne's grasp and into the hands of the Eels. In a report in the Herald today, Roy Masters quotes Melbourne Storm Craig Bellamy as lamenting the fact that his club let Mortimer get away. ''He was with us for a while. A good style of kid. He trained hard. He was a low-maintenance player. He went about his business without any fanfare and worked hard. He's my type of player. I can see why he's doing well," Bellamy was quoted as saying. In another Herald piece Mortimer said: "I was just a little country boy then, but that was me, and I'm ready to stick it back to them.".
