Still in trouble with the cap?

I just had a sneak look at the Daily Telly. Why are we still going to be punished $500 000 next year. I thought this was all going to be fixed this year. We're we in that much trouble where this is going to be dragged onto 2017?

  • We're not being 'punished'. We're just having our TPAs for that much added to the cap. It is money that was going to be paid outside the cap (a big advantage) that is now being paid under the cap (no advantage). So we won't be disadvantaged, we have just lost an advantage we thought we had. We will still be able to spend the whole cap on players, plus more if we can find any legit TPAs between now and then.
    • >plus more if we can find any legit TPAs between now and then

If they're legitimate TPA's, we can't find them. If we find them, they're not legitimate TPA's.

  • The NRL couldn't punish us by taking 37 points away like they did with the Dogs, or two premierships + points like they did with the Storm. So they had to find a new and inventive way of punishing us. So in a first for the history of the game, Parra have been pre-penalised, this ruining not just 2016, but 2017-2018 as well. I think the NRL want to habd Western Sydney to the AFL & A League on a platter.
    • Total bullshit. Stop reading the Daily Telegraph.
  • I don't buy that crap paper but I sometimes see it laying around & have a look. The only positive that I've seen about the Eels was that artical on Wicks comeback and his 100 game this Friday. But I was shocked to see we are still going to be punished next year. I find it hard to take when clearly there no random auditors checking clubs books and tpa of other teams. If the NRL are saying they need people to come forward, well that's just so laughable. So instead of preventing it from happening they wait. Not going to mention teams but I tell you what... No team has the amount of players that take pay cuts to be with this club than this particular team. If that's not alarm bells I don't know what is.
  • Our biggest concern in 2017 is not the cap or any other thing that disadvantages us against other teams.

The major priority is retaining Brad Arthur.

If he goes, the club is guaranteed to fall back into the 2012, 2013 doldrums, or even worse.

If the upcoming merit board don't make this there number one priority, we may as well have a Fitzgerald/Spaggs combo.
    • I hear ya! He has taken over every role to keep this club afloat and still keeping this team competitive.
    • Agree chief.
    • Yeah i'm worried and also wondering why his contract has not already been extended. Maybe waiting for he new board?

    • When is Arthur off contract? And why would he want to stay at a club where the board changes every couple of years?
