Sterlo’s commentary last night

The usually unbiased and very professional sterling was very pro roosters last night. Did anybody else notice this? The whole game he was all about "roosters being brave" and "roosters one try away from winning this". Made me sick.

im getting sick of these professionals constantly playing down our victories and saying the opposition didnt play well.

We pumped the Raiders in Canberra, but the raiders were apparantly poor.

where is the praise for the way our forwards played??

We bashed up the roosters last night.  F**k those dirty cap cheating grubs. You play the eels these days, expect to get hurt. I love that our forwards are feared.

I dont feel sorry for any club that is struggling. We were laughed on for so many years now its our turn to talk shit.

  • Most people (not just eels fans) think Sterlo is one of the best commentators of the game. He is normally very unbias and gives a measured judgments of many scenarios.

  • I stopped listening to all commentators views years ago I only care about the win not their bollocks

  • Totally agree, I watch fox and the way they mick ennis and co commentry made me sick the way were with the roosters.

  • I was at the game so didn't hear any commentary. My take on the game was that the roosters were brave and could have won if a few calls went their way. They did get away with slowing the game down but the eels were guilty of rushing the play particularly early in the game.  It seemed like they got a bit over excited with the occasion and were too eager to put the roosters to the sword. It was another lesson for the eels on being patient and building a victory,  we are very close to being a dominant team that wins premierships.

  • Roosters are favoured by the NRL and by the commentators. Same as the Storm. They can never go wrong. And when something goes wrong, somehow they were hard done by. No credit is ever given to the team that beats them.

  • Yep, noticed it clearly! Disgraceful really its like he's scared to be a supporter of the Eels in commentary. Slater was better which was surprising

  • Hmmmm, with the amount of ball we had and their injuries we should have put a score on them but the Rorters defended stoutly to keep themselves in the game, hence " brave".

Did we deserve the victory because we controlled the game and ground them out of it; yes. Where the Rooters brave and resolute in defence; yes.

It's not absolutism, both can exist at the same time, so Sterlo wasn't wrong.

  • I'm noticing in the League media world there is very much a consensus of opinion on almost everything.
The only good teams are Roosters, Storm, Souths and more recently Penrith. The Raiders are also very well loved and even this week, Kent and co still believe the Raiders can get back on track and are a genuine premiership threat. (Meanwhile the Eels sit outright second but they're not yet convinced).
The rest of the clubs are only there to provide opponents for those favoured teams to play. Beat one of the media darling teams and it wasn't that your team outplayed them, it was because the golden child team had an off night. This plays out every week. You can hear it in the way they call the games as well. They call it from their favourite team's perspective. "Latrell is amazing" or constantly talking about what they need to do to win it, not what the unfavoured team needs to do to win it.
There's only one guy who tells it like he sees it and doesn't follow the trend. Mark Geyer on Triple M. He doesn't follow the pack and it's a super refreshing change.

    • I really don't get it. Not sure what their agenda is, but it's certainly not good business to upset fans of one of the biggest clubs. Oh well, we'll keep doing what we are doing and hopefully give them something to take notice of in October.

    • I'm actually finding both Billy Slater & Cooper Cronk quite good TBH. CC has been particularly fullsome in his praise of the Eels this season. Billy Slater isn't afraid to tell it like it is, and is very analytical in his commentary.
