I have obtained the following statistics to compare against all the other teams. They will point to what aspects of our game that needs improving to be competitive each week and make the eight.
Offensive
Points for 12th (out of 16)
Trys scored 12th
Line breaks 13th
Try assists 14th
Run metres 13th
Offloads 9th
Defensive
Trys conceded 4th (out of 16)
Missed tackles 6th
As the above shows our defence has been high quality all year but we have disappointing figures across all aspects of attack.
What has BA done
Our attacking stats are worse than they should be due to the disruption to our halves throughout the season. Next year we should be more settled in that area but who will partner Norman? Only BA knows that and even then that may not be settled until shortly before the season kicks off.
What he has improved is to bring in 2 props, one of size, with natural offloading skills to promote more second phase play. Although the stats say for offloading we are middle of the road they will increase that aspect.
Another improvement is to bring in fast and elusive backs.
With French at fullback coupled with these new backs, together with more offloading, we should become a more balanced team combining good defence with good attack. At last we should make the eight for the first time since 2009.
However, whether we can make the grand final with the players assembled will very much be in the hands of BA!

i agree with everything you have just said about the fog and townsed and believe the fog would act similarly to how townsed did at the sharks, jennings on the wing is a great move but i disagree that semi should be re signed. IMO it appears he doesn't want to be at parramatta for 2018, if not 2017 and i also think we should chuck and $400000 1 year deal at mitch rein and see how it goes.
Fogarty has so far played zero NRL games.
Poppa, don't disagree with much in your original post, but not sure about switching someone who you laud as a left side defensive center in Jennings to the right wing. The only thing that makes sense in that switch is the defence side of his play, I believe that he has lost too much speed to be considered a winger these days. But do not disagree with a move to the right centre though as it will improve that aspect with the right side, and put Taka back at left centre.
I have no doubt that Semi would be fairly bitter about the Rep snub, and depends how he goes with that and the help he can get as as result. In some ways I think it will do him the world of good as he can be away from the pressues in that squad, with the looming court case that is listed after the series, which he needs a fully clear mind.
He will get back to eels training and in an environment that will help him. You mention being happy, that is very much part of the Fijian culture and if he can be kept happy and out of the limelight which will make him even more happy is what he needs. Having the court case hanging over his head is the worst thing any Fijian could have as it casts a shadow over them. once the shadow is gone then a different person is there, getting a new manager may also help hi,.
I am not sold on Rein especially for the value he puts on himself, a one year deal at no more than$200K would be worth a look but, maybe another player could fill it out. That being one Jamal Fogarty.
To me, I am not sold on a full season let alone the two that IDG has signed on for, but at least it gives him the same amount of time as Pritchard has to prove himself but he needs an injury free year as well as some bulking up..
The Stats that Glen obtained are likely mostly from the stats post on TCT, shows some good stuff, but the big thing for me outside of what they show in the individuals baskets is how the eels attack under performed. Casting aside the years drama's the defence was very good but still 5th best, if that is maintained it will auger well but its the attack that really has to be lifted greatly.
The best example of a poor defensive team doing good is the Raiders, they finished 2nd based on for and against, only Titans and Penrith had worse defence, but they scored the most points over the opposition.
So, unless next year the attack comes good, even with the defence remaining as tight as it is or even better, then things are only going to be better on the points table based on this years potential finish on 30 points had we not lost the 12.
Bahahaah true dat
Five-eighth instead
You adopting a Chinese name now are you Poppa?
Even with all of these new signings and predicted new signings we are still lacking a match winner, that attacking player who will score tries and set other players up outside of Semi and French. I personally would have offered Hayne and extra 200-250K as our attack needs significant improvement.
again do you know we have a player named corey norman Andrew Johns labelled him as Queensland future half surely that doesnt make him a match winner
