Stand alone Origin rounds?

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but would you prefer no other games be played whilst the State of Origin teams are together?Personally I see the fact that you lose your biggest stars to Origin as part of the deal in having the best players. Competitions such as state cricket have a similar problem with international cricket. If you employ a Rep player of any sort, you are aware they may not play every round.Injury to a player may make them miss out a few rounds and is generally unforeseen. However with Rep selection you have a fair idea of it coming. The Origin affected rounds may encourage top teams to spend some money on depth in the club, and also give a chance to the lower grade players to step up.However, not all teams play during Origin. Is the real problem the fact that some teams have a bye during this period and others don't?

  • Definitely stand alone. Having the best players in the league stand down from regular season matches is amateur hour. NRL is big business, not a local league. All 26 rounds matter.
  • Stand alone rounds are rubbish, there simply isn't enough football on. If we were to ditch the stand alone Anzac weekend and the two bye weekends we're halfway to achieving a full home and away competition.
  • I'd be happier with stand alone rounds if the resulting lack of footy wasn't accompanied by waiting for NSW to lose again.
  • don't most origin players back up now? so i don't get your point, they'd still sit out the game before origin like they do now, i'd just have it so that every team played a game on those weekends.

  • This gets raise every year but will never see the light of day while Fox has contracts with the NRL. I'm surprised that they allow the rep round especially when those games have no interest to most people. Given the popularity of the SOO it would make much more sense to have at least the first two games stand alone rounds which could include support games like U20 SOO & the pacific island tests.

  • No problem with the way it is now. Stand alone rounds suck.

    • i'm glad i wasn't the only one who was bored batty all weekend after the anzac test.

  • No I don't agree ,

That would benefit the topsides only , are you not sick of the storm winning ? personally I will be loving this year watching the storm lose a few more and miss the semis . The dogs are only number 1 due to luck and refs calls . Three 1 point wins and they are not killing sides . I think keep it this way , it also shows you how good your team is without their super starts . Take Cowgirls - Thurston, tamuo and scott  - take them out and lets see how good they play . Dogs - take out their halves and morris and watch them struggle to win ..

A team like our Eels will only benefit this year as we only lose hayne and we have players like hoppa , sio or even norman that can fill that roll for a week or two .

I think this is a great chance for the eels to go up the ladder while origin is going .

  • Stand alone over 3 weeks - done.

This 3 weeks between each one is torturous.

  • Also 3 x prematch 'entertainment' = 3 x 40 minutes or 120 minutes or 2 hours of crapoid, self involved, dribble from the 'expert' commentary team.

    Way too much.
