Southern Grandstand Project No Longer Proceeding

I have just been advised by email from the stadium trust (following an email to them) that the new grandstand at the southern end of Parra Stadium is no longer proceeding. This leaves us with a mini stadium at Parra for the long term. Not good enough! The capacity is nowhere near big enough! At the very least we need to reopen the hills to increase the capacity for the fans. 21000 is far too small for a club with parra's following.

  • Commercially you would move to Homebush. With a smaller ground that we now have, we have sell out games or games that are said to be close to sell outs, which means that people don't do a walk up on the day. this then means that we don't actually have full attendances on days that are technically sell outs or near sell outs. The elimination of the hills (and the only stumbling block to them now being used is the advertising signs behind the concourses) has prevented so many people from walking up to the ground on the day to attend games.
    IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
I know that it is out of the clubs control as they don't own the ground, but as the grounds only major tennant, they can put pressure on the trust to accommodate our club's needs.
  • The minister of sport and local members and the lord mayor of parramatta need to step up to the plate. its time they all got together and as well as the parramatta club and the stadium trust. everybody throws some money into the project and gets 2 x grandstands built at either end of the ground joining onto the thornet and cronin stands and bring the ground capacity to 30,000.

Also if they are going to play international and 4 nations games at the stadium. its time for the stadium trust to make representation to the the state Gov and say we need to match suncorp stadium and since parramatta is the 2nd CBD
someone should look hard and serious at it and say "HEY we need a stadium that will hold 50 or 60 thousand.
    then do something about it.
    • Not gonna happen. ANZ is the big stadium "out west" and a lot of money is being sunk into the GWS facility at Blacktown. Manly can't get money to re-do Brookvale and it is in desperate need of attention.

If Parra wants a bigger stadium then we need to build it ourselves and the only way that will happen is if we start filling the place we have. I guess a winning team would help with that...

  • The seats in Northern and Southern terrace are shit, they should just turn them back into hills or turn them into grandstands...
  • when was the last time Parra Stadium was sold old? As anyone here ever been turned away unable to get a seat at Parramatta Stadium? I take example round 1 vs Dragons this year. Everyone was saying move the game to ANZ cause there will be 50,000+ wanting to go. We stayed at home instead and still didn't even sell out the Stadium. If we struggle to fill a 21,000 capacity stadium, what are we gonna do with a 40,000 capacity stadium?
  • It was sold out against the Roosters and the West tigers. Friends of mine tried to get in for both and were turned away because there was not a SINGLE seat available. The thing is Jamesy, a lot of people miss out on games because they 'assume' it will be a high selling crowd. With a bigger stadium comes a bigger crowd. Just look at the bulldogs. If they were still at Belmore, they would not have the average that they have now. Dragons vs Parra was also very close to a sell out but only failed because a lot of people didnt bother turning up as they thought there wouldnt be seats left.
  • A good example is the rabbitohs game. At home that crowd would not be as big as what we get when we verse them at ANZ. Yet at ANZ we get a minimum of 19 000 against them and their not even that huge of rivals for us for it to be considered a blockbuster game.
  • Mate, we can't even fill our mini stadium to capacity so what's the point of a bigger ground??
  • We had the best designed stadium to see it was only for the greens it didnt happen .When we were looking at building Parramatta Stadium.GOOD ONE GREEN'S
  • They kept saying its a sell out so people didn't buy tickets. It happens all the time. without the chance of getting a seat the game day walk ups don't happen. This keeps our crowds down.
