THE battle for the 2014 Dally M medal is on in earnest as Sam Burgess draws level with Jarryd Hayne at the top of the leaderboard.

Burgess’s man-of-the-match display in the Rabbitohs victory over the Tigers earned him the maximum three points with he and Hayne now locked on 18 points each at the midway point of the season.

CORRECTION: Last week Jarryd Hayne’s three Dally M points he received in State of Origin I. That was incorrect and Hayne’s points have been adjusted accordingly.

Can someone explain why Hayne doesn't deserve 3 points for Origin? Kind of makes it unfair for Origin players and Dally M awards

  • if he gets three this origin it counts because he missed club game
  • That's stupid. Let's give the best players in the game a week off and put them in doubt for their next game but let's not give them Dally M points. So if a player is suspended from a state of Origin game then the same rules should apply and players should not lose points.

    • Fair comment Ham. It basically means that SOO players r disadvantaged.

I suppose its another point in favour of having SOO matches played as stand alone weekend matches with all NRL teams on a bye. I know that the TV NRL coverage & accompanying dollars dictate whats scheduled but it is really unfair to all concerned including those clubs & fans with SOO rep players involved.

  • Whats the point then for getting Dally M points in Origin if they are not counted?

I thought in the past they were counted.

  • its a bit silly having the best players out for SOO and not allowing any points to go there way

  • they count in origin if you miss a club game.
parra had the bye prior to origin so no points. the penrith game he would be eligible to get points in but the club rested him
if he gets mom in origin 2 it counts because we had a game week before origin
the only way he is disadvantaged is that it is harder to pick up points in origin due to the quality of players around you
  • don't players automatically become ineligible for the Dally M if they cop a suspension

  • They lose 3 points for every week suspension they get. Which to me is fairly stupid considering that they already can't earn points.

  • I think the problem is players dont backup well after origin thus the disadvantage
  • Hayne is on 21pts.

"I think the disappointing part for Pensini was the poor defence last week against Melbourne. Yes everyone was shit. But he missed a one on one tackle for Leo to score. He also got burned in the frist half by Leo but Iongi saved the day."
