Sorting through the garbage and staying strong

Just wanting to add my obligatory "5 cents" to everything that has been swirling around and try to round some of this up in a (hopefully) short summation.

YES, there was a blundering with the Foran contract. Let's not shy away from that. But let's focus upon the fact that our board , once made aware has been working to rectify the situation and ensure that this marquee player is still coming to this great club.

Summation - We have a management group that is working to fix a problem rather than sweep it under the carpet and are prepared to be up front about it. They have put their hands up (as it were) owned up to an error and are committed to rectifying it. Isn't that something that we would ALL want from a management group IF an error was made?

We are NOT the Melbourne Storm board who systematically breached NRL rules and laws and would STILL be doing so had they not been found out.

We are NOT the Manly Sea Eagles, who have tried to (not so secretly .... we all know they tried) to snare our coach away from us and deny it all. We do not have a board of directors in which punches and threats of violence got so bad that apprehended violence orders had to be taken out.  We are also not the Manly board, in whom have denied they are in talks with Trent Barrett, yet Penrith publicly gave Barrett time off to "sort out his future" (we all know what's happening there)

Summation - be a fan of the board or not, they are, with Steve Sharp at the helm, acting with professionalism and distinction in the wake of everything

We are not a club that is now, or in recent years, been on the brink of financial insolvency, nor if we were a joint venture club, on the brink of splitting from the merger because we can't meet the financial responsibilities of the "business marriage" .  We KNOW that there are several clubs that are even now in that situation, not only "stand alone" clubs , but at least one joint venture.

Summation - This club is strong and will remain as a club for some time yet.  We all saw the proposals to ensure the financial future of our club with the Leagues Club and the long term plans. If things were so dire, action would need to be taken NOW and not a plan to build end ensure a long term viable and sustainable future.

The stories, opinions by media identities, rumour mongering ..... there IS a hidden (or maybe not so hidden for those of us who see it) agenda here.

The greatest way to sow a seed of doubt is to wrap a lie up and tie it up with a ribbon of truth. People then can play "pass the parcel" with this lie with it's veneer of truth because it SEEMS credible. Some people might even begin to believe the lie, but it's nothing more than that. People may even begin to react and try to do something that, although well intentioned, will do nothing more than to fuel the flames of the lie and cause more harm.

Rallies will do nothing more than to SERVE those whose desire is to harm and destabilise the club and serve to make people believe in the lie as the truth.

Don't buy into the lie.

No I am not advocating that we all strap on our preferred unicorn horn headpiece and parade around like everything is awesome , but that we all try to look as much as we can at a larger picture and examine it all with some perspective.

I'm a passionate fan and I can be a very passionate person especially when it comes to my Eels. .  At times it can be hard to have anything BUT a passionate, heartfelt , genuine supporter reaction to everything that is unfolding.  However, right now, ours is the time to be looking past the subterfuge,  past the media beat up and do what us Parra fans EXCEL AT -

BE LOYAL, STAYING STRONG AND LOVING OUR TEAM.

It's not an easy ask at times I know, but it's one that I just know that right now, doing anything else will only prove to be a disservice to what is trying to be achieved at the club by the players, coach and staff.

Have faith that for long term success, a short term fix can't be and won't be the cure.

Thanks for being patient with me and reading.

  • Top quality blog DK, agree mate, theres been some quality blogs today, nice work lads.

    • cheers Snake!

  • Summation all you want mate.

What scares me is the board didn't even know the set terms of the contract till the eleventh hour.

    How professional is that ?
  • Yep, gotta agree with you here DK.

  • I agree with everything you say, DK. Oh, except the inference about managerial competence! I think you forgot to mention the virtue of being honest. If we're honest, the board dropped the ball. I agree with sticking with them and I agree it's good they're trying to fix things, but coupled with years of cap mismanagement, an injection of competence is probably also needed. I know it's not a popular position, but I think an independent NRL director is warranted. I stay out of the board politics discussions generally, but enough is enough! Can people honestly say the board has not dropped the ball cap-wise and Foran-wise?
PS: by the way, same board, same coach, etc; just add some management experience I think
  • Good blog DK...now lets get around the boys and smash the drag queens!

    • cheers matey!
