Pic: Mark EvansReports a deal has been done to bring Sonny Bill Williams back to the NRL. Pic: Mark EvansTHE door is wide open for Sonny Bill Williams to make a grand return to the NRL.While his contract with the All Blacks expires at the end of 2019, reports have emerged that Williams is set to return to the Roosters this year after wrapping up his commitments with the Auckland Blues.Turning 33 in August, Williams last played for the Roosters in 2014 and has long been expected to make a return before hanging up the boots.LIVE stream every 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership game of every round on FOX SPORTS. SIGN UP NOW >According to former Roosters forward turned media personality Jimmy Smith, Williams has already struck a deal with the club.Smith told the Big Sports Weekend on Sunday that the backrower will be back in Bondi before the finals with the Super Rugby final set for August 4.While there’s a World Cup in 2019, Smith claims Williams has been told he’s not part of the All Blacks’ plans for their upcoming campaign which has paved the way for his comeback.Just when you thought the NRL heavyweights couldn’t get any more powerful after adding Cooper Cronk and James Tedesco to their roster, the release of Mitchell Pearce means they have the salary cap space to accomodate Williams’ return.“The mail is good,” Smith said.“From what I understand the deal is done. It will be a short stint at the end of the Super Rugby season.”In Williams’ last appearance for the Roosters, he spent two seasons with the club, playing a major role in their 2013 premiership success. The title ended an 11-year premiership drought but Williams’ professionalism is still being felt by the club. The dual-code superstar then helped defend the title with a minor premiership before returning to rugby. The decision makers of the Roosters believe Williams’ two years helped establish their culture and the high standards they set today.

  • What a surprise lol

  • I herd there’s more to follow as well
  • The sombrero at work again

  • A great signing when you consider they will only be paying his wages for August, September and October, similar to when Hayne first signed with GC.  Pro-rate wise he won't cost much.

  • I’ve been told by someone who should know what SBW was actually being paid last time he played and it was astronomical. He was earning more than Hayne put it that way.
    • I have on good authroity from a player manager that works for a couple of high quality players that he was getting 2mill a year when he first signed. Wether that full amount was registered on the salary cap or the nrl new about his price i duno.

Also keep in mind the salary cap back then was around 6.3m and they had a tonne of quality players aswell such as jennings, maloney, pearce e.t.c

    • Of course he was. He had a TPA with Channel 9.
  • Its a joke - where is their salary cap ?

  • Hi Pops, I forgot about the new changes.  Assuming he is the last player in the 30 man squad and the cut off is 30/6/18 they will need to pay for 4 months, not 3 months.  He will still come cheap.

  • I think you’ll find it’s actually Sonny Bill Baggins not Sonny Bill Williams!
