Some self reassurance

It was a great win for Eels fans, but it was a timely one for myself. When i was 6 my dad took me to my first NRL game, told me the rules, the players and refs the players he hated and loved. it was from there when i loved Rugby league, it was what we would talk most about, going to origins, grand finals and every home game together, when he couldnt go to a home game i would ring him at half time to discussion what had happened, including enjoying the new bankwest stadium, he is the reason i love NRL and Parramatta teaching me to be loyal. This has been all the same for 18 years

18 years straight with the intent to go to Parramatta V Brisbane, until Friday morning, when i was notified that my dad had been killed in a freak work related incident. Day before this game i was contemplating whether it was the right thing to do, would he want me to go to see the Eels play or spend time with my mum and brother and family to mourn. I took the risk and decided to go to the game as planned thinking if it was the right thing to do, having the season ticket with his name on it, crying as i scanned it one last time and hoping he would let me know if i made the right choice

And the son of a bitch did, as i write this crying, it will be crying with a smile as some may tell me it is a coincidence i see this is as him telling me it's gonna be ok and i made the right choice, the choice he wanted me to make. To me it was him that won it, the players somehow knew and despite this team letting me down for so many years they stood up at the most important day of my life when i needed them the most.

And even better, dad knew my love for Reed Mahoney, talking his ear off about this hooker from 20's and now to NRL, the fact he scored the final try tonight made it guarenteed he played a part, whether it was small or big he wanted to tell me something.

Thank you Dad and thank you Parramatta
